Conference 04
The Vatican II council caused a great deal of excitement but also a great deal of uncertainty in the Cistercian world. New ideas were circulating and the Order, with the approval of the Holy See, was allowed some leeway to experiment. This made the undertaking of a new set of Constitutions impossible, since there was no clear consensus as to which way the Order was headed.
