A neighbor gave me a piece of MDF to see what I could do with it. First burn didn't take off so good this was the second round. I'll post the video of the first one soon.
MDF, chipboard, fiberboard, cardboard, felt, and other pressed porous organic materials are not suitable for burning Lichtenberg figures because they do not have any restrictions on the absorption of the electrolyte in depth. The current flows along the path of least resistance and in porous pressed materials, the electrolyte, and therefore the path of current flows quickly into the depth of the material. The optimal material for electrochemical burning is plywood, hardwood..
The first attempt didn't go so well so I saturated the other side of this piece a lot more and it worked fine didn't go very deep was actuall quite slow, it goes deeper on oak and Pinewood, Cedar seems to take it the best so far. I'll post a short video of the finished MDF board if you want to see it.
