Evaluating Fractions
- Rational Values Wherein Numerator is Divided by Denominator
- ¾ of x divides x by 4 and counts three of those four parts
- Use Greatest Common Factor to Reduce a Fraction to its Least Common Denominator
- 4/8 = 1/2 because 4/8 ÷ 4/4 = 1/2
Adding, Subtracting, or Comparing Fractions
- Use the Bowtie Method for (64&2/5) + (64&3/7)
1. Multiply Denominators
- Common Denominator = 35
2. Cross Multiply Numerators
3. Sum Numerators 14/35 + 15/35 = 29/35 = 2/5 + 3/7
Multiplying and Dividing Fractions
- Multiply Straight Across 2/5 × 3/7 = 6/35
- Divide Left to Right by Multiplying by Reciprocal
- Consider (2/5)⁄(3/7) Rewrite as 2/5 × 7/3
- Multiply Straight Across 2/5×7/3 = 14/15 = 2/5 ÷ 3/7
