Hovering: Everytime I enter Macy’s to test a new scent, I’m bombarded by 3 people asking if I need anything before I even get to look. Typically, by the time I’m going to the store, I’ve done my due diligence and have researched the heck out of the notes of the perfume, read tons of reviews, watched tons of videos on it, and know who has the best sales. I know the sales people don’t know that but I get very irritated when they spray a test strip and just wait to see what I’m going to do. It makes me very uncomfortable. I work in healthcare, strong perfumes should not be worn, if at all. The only perfume I’ve found that is very inoffensive and hypoallergenic is JHAG “Not a Perfume”. I’ve worn it for five years now and patients absolutely love it and compliment me nonstop. It’s such a minimalist soft warm clean inviting scent that works perfectly in a clinical setting. I used to like Philosophy Amazing Grace for its soapy clean scent but it could still be very overpowering.
Not a Perfume is really nice. The first time I tried it, I didn't like it. But then I waited and tried it again, I love it!!!! I used the sample up immediately. It is so subtle, yet very enjoyable.
I recently got back into fragrance after a long hiatus. It was partially due to the fact that I worried about offending people - such as those with sensory issues/allergies/migraines, etc. So I appreciate your video! Now that I am delving back in, I just stay balanced and do my best to be thoughtful and considerate of others. I didn't realize before that there is a fragrance community on You Tube and now that I do, I am now waaaay more obsessed than I was before and I'm learning so much! Thanks for your videos, great job. 👏
This was great fun to watch and learn. I myself have recently choked myself out from over spraying and then getting into my car. Coughing fits for half an hour. Learned my lesson. Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas, Yana ❤. Cannot believe your son is already 1! Wow. Time flies.
Omg it bugs me when I go to a Sephora and the fragrance person just says oh it’s nice and I ask them how is the longevity? How is projection? And they have no clue. They just say Oh it’s nice… A lot of people like it I guess … like I want to be informed not a burden… Anyways I love your Channel🥰✨✨✨
@@nicolenonya5874 girl I literally am floored !!! I didn’t know silage before I delved further into fragrance but they get paid to sell me a fragrance tell me the terms know what it means! You would be surprised how many more people might be more apt to buy a fragrance if you educate them on their purchase rather than saying it’s nice or this is a top seller. 🤦🏻♀️ It’s so frustrating.
My pet peeve is definitely the sheer ARMY of salespeople at the fragrance section of Neiman Marcus. And of course it's usually by the entrance as well. I feel like I need to pump up my courage to walk through there.
Hi! Merry Christmas 🎄 I must say! You've a pretty picture on your profile! I just decided to stop by and say Hi! I hope my compliment is appreciated 🌹👍
Until they closed, I had a wonderful sales associate at the fragrances in Lord & Taylor. She knew her fragrances, wasn't pushy and told me of new scents. I went to her exclusively. I really miss her and that store!
I've ruined my own dinner with a super strong perfume. It was new so I had no idea how powerful it would be. I sprayed right before heading out on the chest area of my shirt. That's all I could smell and I couldn't even enjoy my dinner🤦♀️ I learned my lesson!
Yup same!! Food and strong perfumes aren't a match 😆 I did it with oud satin mood! Also I don't spray stronger fragrances on my neck/chest area anymore
OMG, I experienced the rummaging in a digital form. I joined a fragrance group on FB and shared my Fragrantica shelves with them. For days on end people I do not know, kept asking me what my prices are, and am I willing to sell this or that bottle. Mind you the group is not about selling and re-selling, just love of fragrances. I find this to be so rude, vulture behavior. I am happy its not just me.
Yeah. Sometimes when I'm testing a particular perfume at Macy's, a salesperson will approach and start recommending other fragrances (which do not interest me), spraying them unto sample papers and handing them to me to smell. I find myself distracted and interrupted, passing the time just politely commenting, "Yes, this is nice," until I can swiftly get away.
Lol, please do a seminar for Macy's perfume department. They told me Givenchy Amarige was old, while rolling eyes, then followed to Valentino men's. My daughter said that it smelled a little like Donna Born in Roma women's....that brought a no it doesn't smell anything like it. Then asked about Pure Poison. No joy, escaped with a headache, from all the over sprays. To quote Pretty Woman "Big mistake".
Those people annoy me. They are so clueless when it comes to fragrance. They don’t even TRY to learn and be better at their job. Last time I went to a counter like that I inquired which was the latest Miss Dior release because I had a lady at the counter spray it on a card and a month later it still smelled wonderful. Not a single person knew. How the hell do you work at a fragrance counter and not know what the latest fragrance release of a particular company is? GTFO! I just had to Google it at that point. 🙄
That sounds like the worst experience! I do find most of the time that people working at fragrance counters at those larger stores lack product knowledge but not sass lol
Hi! Merry Christmas 🎄 I must say! You've a pretty picture on your profile! I just decided to stop by and say Hi! I hope my compliment is appreciated 🌹👍
Ahahaha that's all so true 👌 Little storytime here, My BF suffer from somnambulism and rearranged an entire shelf of my perfume collection one night 😂 I think it might be because of all the times I told him not to touch my bottles !!! Anyway we had a good laugh about it and I left it the way he did it that night because he actually did it quiet good 👌 😂!
So this made me feel better. I only used 2 sprays of libre intense & it wasn’t as “intense” as I hoped. I’m starting to see a “normal” spray is 3-5 sprays. So I’ll try that tomorrow. Everyone said they still smelled it on me, I guess I just wanted to smell myself a little more lol. I wasn’t sure if 3-5 was too many.
Love all your videos and am constantly on the lookout for your recommendations especially along the soft musky scents which I like. Have you done a video on your favourite musky scents?
I love this video and i have to share one of the worst experiences i had while purchasing a fragrance from none other than shoppers drug mart beauty boutique. With fragrances, just like you mentioned, we need time, we need the freedom, we need to try many many scents before we can decide, and i was doing that when this numb mind assistant came and asked me “are you going to buy something?” And i was like what the hell. What do you care? Did i ask for your help? I am here exploring scents that YOU YOURSELF have put as TESTERS. So what’s your problem? Do i HAVE TO BUY NOW? I mean it was so rude, it ruined my whole day and i just wanted to leave without buying anything when i actually did like elizabeth arden white tea. Thanks to the dumb sales person who ruined a customer’s experience so yeah if you work in that realm please don’t do that.
i always overspray 2-3 hours before work so by the time I get in, I'm just the right amount of fragrant where I get compliments but I'm not choking people out, I work in healthcare so I spend a lot of time in close contact with m patients
Yana thank you so much for addressing the harassing sales people issue! I’ve been wondering if you’d ever bring up that subject! I agree with you 100% on that. That’s the main reason why I try not to go to fragrance section of department stores as much as I love sniffing fragrances, because those sales people just won’t leave you alone even after you made it clear to them that you do not need help and you’re just window shopping! By the way, how do you deal with those clingy salesmen?
I know, and it's so unfortunate because I'm pretty sure they are trained that way or instructed to do so by higher-ups who know nothing about a correct, gentle sales approach which is so important in certain environments. I usually politely say I'm just exploring but I'll definitely let you know if I have questions. If they don't get the message and keep hovering then I do end up making my way out of the store
@@TheScented I think they also work on commission, and that would explain a lot 😅😅but I guess I’m going to have to start leaving the store too…. Thanks for replying and Merry Christmas to you and your family ! 🎄🎁
The greatest way to get rid of them is to pester them for samples like they pester you, they hate when you ask for a sample of every perfume you puck up lol 😂 l guarantee they'll leave you alone 🙏🏼
HI, I AM A HUGE PERFUME COLLECTOR AND HAVE BEEN SINCE I WAS 16 AND NOW IM 49.... I HATE WHEN FRIENDS COME OVER AND CONSTANTLY AND I MEAN CONSTANTLY WANT TO SPRAY YOUR PERFUME... IT ANNOYS ME.... I AM NOT A SCROODGE BUT IF YOU ARE INTO PERFUME PLEASE START BUYING YOUR OWN !!!!
Great points in this video 👍! People overspraying their fragrance is one of my biggest pet peves. I have my own space at work. Not long ago someone visited me and I immediately recognized the person wearing Baccarat Rouge 540. The person talked to me for a while and hugged me twice before leaving. Their scent not only lingered in and around my office for hours after, but I could smell it on myself for the rest of the day. Not that I dislike BR 540, it is a great unique scent, but I was wearing my own perfume that day and it felt like someone else's fragrance forced its way into my personal space and took over. This turned me off from wearing BR540 for a long time. Another perfume pet peve of mine would be going out on a date with a guy who uses too much fragrance. I love it when a man smells groomed and looks polished, but not when his fragrance is competing with mine.
Thank you so much!! I got it at Guess earlier this year but I just checked and it doesn't look like they have it anymore 😢 they have somewhat similar styles but not quite it
I have never heard of someone spraying a fragrance 20 - 30 times. Yikes! I though 5 was likely over spraying unless it's a Jo Malone or something ultra light. 😅 I agree about it being rude for someone to spray, use or touch a fragrance without asking first unless it's offered by the host and owner of the fragrances. Knowing when and were to wear fragrance is vital to being able to wear fragrance in public. People need to be considerate. Thanks for sharing your tips. It should be common sense... But... Not everyone thinks the same way. Have a good holiday weekend! Hopefully no fragrance sample requests from relatives for you Yanna. - Jenn
Omg this is why I don't go to big departmenr stores, I feel so pressured when they come up and ask how can I help you... especially with perfumes, its awful.
@@katerinakampanelli2320 Companies should definitely start using more modern marketing strategies as these do not work… of course the problem is not with the stuff but rather with the people above giving these instructions.
My neighbour sometimes sprays perfume on himself in front of the house and he literally sprays so much it wafts into my house on the first floor, even with the windows closed (!) and stays for hours. One time he forgot his key and needed to climb over my balcony to get back into his house and I couldn’t get the smell out for a week 😂
My pet peeves are the sales persons who harass you but have no clue when you ask them a question. My number two pet peeves are over sprayed people at the office that gives me nausea. Moreover my skin reacts and gets oily with certain perfumes from the others. Sometimes we just have nose fatigue and think that our perfume is not there, so we over spray, but it is there.
Ohhhhh I loved this vid Yana. 😄 That Black Ice will be the death of us all! Old people slip on it, break their hips, yeah, it's a no-go. I'm like, "this is KA-NaY-DA beeeotch" Beware of black ice. 🚙 But THANK YOU for that friends of perfume lovers psa. Is there any way we can get it on the news?? 😂 I've lost caps like that before. And consider investing in a locking cabinet if you have kids around! On more than one occasion when I've had my niece and nephew over, they got into my 8 and 10 mL decants and I'd find them half empty with the room reeking of vintage Amouage. 😬 Sure learned my lesson. 💸We had to have a little discushhh. Ps, if you spray Kouros in a public bathroom, no one will notice! 🤣
I love perfumes but I am very sensitive to scents, so I never over spray, actually I think this is a big mistake because it´s very rude to offend someone with your scent. If it´s a strong perfume I will just wear 2 to 3 sprays maximum.
that's funny because the last part happened to me the same way. i sprayed fleur narcotique on a strip and asked my neighbor if it smelled like a 300€ scent and she grabs my arm and sprays black XS by Pacco rabanne on it and says "yes great and how do you like it?"🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
1-6 sprays max for me. If you wear a lotion or something else with it it will last without giving anyone an asthma attack. People just need to keep in mind that they won’t be the only person dealing with the fragrance.
7:44 It should also be noted that this kind of behavior can be especially off-putting to some black and brown customers; because the connotation is different .
Ouu I totally agree especially around food , it seems as if you can taste it in the food. The little trees bit was funny 🤣🤣 .messing with a fragrance collectors perfumes are a big NO NO 😔 .l hope you and the little one had an amazing Christmas. TFS 🙏🏼
I don't know if this is etiquete related, but.. how do we handle having someone close to us who wears the same fragrance as us? Say a work colleague, or a close friend?
With all due respect is it offensive to you that someone you know use the same fragrance as you? I’m just curious because I never think about it that way. Fragrance is super subjective and people usually have a few different types for different situations, occasions, weather, etc. That why’s I don’t mind smelling someone with the same perfume. They enjoy it and so do I.
I'm not sure tbh, it has never really bothered me if a friend wears the same fragrance as me. I'm usually the one who introduced them to it so if I recognize their scent I say "heyyyy, wearing _____(fill in the blank)? it's a good one! 😉" but if it bothers you, I would probably just say "that fragrance smells great, I love it too!" and then I'd just wear something different around that person 🤷🏻♀️
I get wanting your own personal signature scent. If it bothers you I would suggest finding a new favorite. There are so many amazing perfumes on the market. And if they ask you what it is, be honest and say “I’m sorry I’d rather not say because having a unique scent is important to me.” It’s nice to have a scent that reminds people of you.
I hate when people spray the front of their clothes and hug you, smearing their scent on you. If I wanted to smell like you, I would have bought that fragrance. Ick!
TY for bringing this up. FFS, I can't imagine an RN checking how dilated a cervix is with those claws people call nails now days. I did check out Max & Ollie Soap Company b/c they're skin scents but they put a plastic roller ball instead of metal. That would be as 'strong' as someone in the healthcare profession could go. Another pet peeve, if you have time to edit is, women break their hair when they spray alcohol based parfum in their hair brush, sure, spray the brush but wait until the alcohol dries down. I have large twitter accounts, I don't want everyone knowing my perfume collection which is over 300, counting oils I am around 500. Yana, Thank you for your platform, OP emailed me this morning to replace a bottle. If not for you, I would have remained ignored. Unsure if you can talk OP into putting labels on their 10 ML bottles w/ 60 ML purchase. I have more than 10 of them. Keep making your videos. I just ordered Etat Libre D`Orange Yes I Do based on your recommendation. You give us fragheads a lot of suggestions.
