Great tone comparison as always. I really wish you were interested in Ron Ellis pickups. I'm having a hard time deciding between the JL and Mid-Talls for my Tele neck and your demos always provide such great info on the tones you can expect out of pickups.
So crazy, I actually just got an Ellis JL Tele Neck / 52T Bridge set! Installed them on my miris, instantly blown away. Obviously have to do something creative to get the Neck position to work aesthetically. I’d love to compare the Neck to a mid-tall but they’re just so stupid expensive!
@@haskitt That's the exact set I've been eyeballing for weeks now but can't decide between it or the Mid Tall and 50B. The Mid Tall might work better for my Tele which is on the dark side acoustically but since it lacks some classic smokiness, I also worry about how it balances in position 2. Ugh... In any event, there is a decided lack of great tone demos on Ron Ellis pickups so I hope you might consider doing one. The wide variety of styles you play during your vids give the most comprehensive feel on youtube of what you can expect from equipment. Thanks for all the hard work you put into making the videos. I feel like they're an indispensable resources of information to us tone nomads/pickup junkies -- especially your Lollar series. They are a tone bible for most of their pickups and, frankly, are much better than the demos Lollar themselves put out.
OK… I’ve watched three of your videos now. I feel like you’re in my head. We have the exact same taste in Tone! I need you to just tell me what pick ups I need to put in my tele… Seriously. I’ve got the stock pick ups that came with the American standard. I do have the obsidian four-way switch so I can run the bridge and neck pick up in series. I watched your Lollar telly pick up video and agreed on the 52s. Is there another brand that you like better than the Lollar? Thanks so much for the time you’ve put into these videos!
The Fralins were fat but had a Fender-y top end. The McNelly's were warm, rich and very deep. I think what I was surprised by the most was how off putting I found the combination of the Fralin bridge and the McNelly neck. For some reason, it seems like it made the bridge more nasal despite adding more warmth from the McNelly. Another wonderful tone demo. This channel is the absolute best at it.
As always Great video… I have the alnico Fralin in the neck of two guitars and recommend it often. It is very balanced and responds well to whatever guitar it’s in. I have it in both hollow and solid body guitars and it compliments both. For my tastes and playing style the eq on the Fralin pickup is perfect. The McNelly middle position is pretty special though. I’ve been looking at the sp43 as a replacement for a dimarzio area 61 bridge in a hollow body strat bridge but I’m tempted to try fralins twangmaster first 🤷♂️
