Searching for answers to the eternal question “When will I, will I play Framus?” ... enter, friend, and look no further.
According to www.framus-vint..., this guitar was probably made around 1965.
In this video, I’m playing it through my pedal board into a Vintage Sound Amps Vintage 15 (a Fender BF Princeton Reverb clone with a old Weber 12" speaker inside) and a Real Guitars Little Leo (Fender Tweed 5E4A Super Amp clone with 2 x 10" speakers), recorded with a old Sennheiser 421 and a current production e606 mic through a RME Babyface Pro audio interface into Cubase. All non-guitar sounds coming from the Korg Electribe Sampler ES-2 groove box. All tracks were recorded live into Cubase, with only minimal postprocessing (volume levels, slight limiting, some bass cut).
Pedals used on this demo include the Boss ES-5 and a custom made patch box by Dimehead Electronics for switching, a Prostage Remote Wah Wah (mounted under the board, only used as linear boost in this video), a Kingsley Minstrel Overdrive, a Sonuus Volume volume pedal also used for compression and as noise gate in this demo, a Mooer Ninety Orange phaser, a Line 6 M5 (used as Chorus on some parts) and a Strymon Timeline doing delay and “Fake Reverb” (pattern delay).
Contains a partial cover version of “Samba Pa Ti”, © 1970 by Carlos Santana. All other stuff © 2019 by TheGuacamoleXplosion.

OH goodness! I had a guitar just like this one in my early teen learning stage. Mid 60s sounds right. Gold appointments and that odd looking pickguard. Looks like it had a tremolo and a string mute. I remember the finger hook very well; that was a volume swell I believe. You make it sound better than I did.

thx; volume swell finger hook unfortunately didn't work anymore on this one 😊

This was really fun to watch! I don't get a chance to play with them often, but I really like the feel of flatwound strings.

The Framus Golden Strato was my first electric guitar, 40 years ago. It was used and in poor condition. This one sounds very nice!

Wow! Great demo! I have the same mid 60’s Framus Golden Strato Deluxe but with 2 pups and active electronics. Thanks for demoing this very underrated guitar!

Great sounding instrument! I had the chrome plated version of this model..The StratoDeluxe...loved it.....why didn't you demo the 'Organ tone'?
@TheGuacamoleXplosion

not sure what you mean by the Organ tone?

@@TheGuacamoleXplosion the 'Organtone was really just a flashy term for a volume swell control. On my Strato deluxe it was a spring loaded volume pot with a chromed knob holding a short curved arm positioned so you could hook it with your picking hand pinky finger and manipulate it. The spring allowed the control to return to zero when released. It was controlled via an on/off slider switch...I don't recall if turning it on allowed it to act as a master volume or if it actually disabled the other volume control. Roy Buchanan was a master of using the volume control of his Telecaster in a similar manner. Cheers!

@@framusburns-hagstromiii808 Thanks for the explanation ... I guess this was somehow broken, or the spring was missing, on this Framus. There was the knob with the short curved arm as you describe it, but was loose and moving it yielded no audible results

6:01-6:48 Love that part so much. Is it an improvisation or do the score exists somewhere ?
@TheGuacamoleXplosion

thx ☺ ... pure improvisation, though surely influenced by bossa and samba tracks from the 1960s like Girl from Ipanema and One Note Samba

Nice playing and tones, is that a Santana piece in the beginning?

I’m not great at setting up guitars; this one was already set up quite okay when I got it

this guitar was made in Bubenreuth, Germany, 500 km away from any ocean, 350 km from the next seriously big lake ... I guess that isolated my fantasy from any surfy feelings :-D
