My Bloom V2 and my expression pedal occupy the same side of my pedal board. I was a long time supporter of Sonuus...Wahoo and those little MIDI-converters. Your vid has compelled me to make some changes...the "Voluum" could take the place of: my expression pedal, my compressor, my tremolo and my knock off "Slow Gear". ps:: maybe its time to clean the neck of that Strat?
thx ... in a vid with mostly clean sounds, at least the guitar itself need to be dirty ;-D Check my dedicated Voluum vid: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-w46XLNQA5AI.html
😲 11:07... Could this be a sign? I have been trying out MULTIPLE electric guitars and amps at MULTIPLE stores for MONTHS (getting back into electric guitar after a handful of years back when I sold it all; I've still had acoustic-electric guitars and an acoustic amp), and I have pretty much narrowed it down to Reverend guitars. I had a local Charger RA I liked, but I didn't like the color. I ended up buying a Reverend Double Agent OG with a Hyper Vintage Railhammer bridge pickup upgrade on Reverb, but it fell through. Then, I bought a Charger RA in a color I liked on Reverb, and IT fell through! Well, after asking one of my local guitar stores about some other models, they're transferring a few over at my request from another store's location. I've got a Club King 290, Six Gun HPP, and Charger 290 (potentially, a Rick Vito Soul Agent, also) coming in the next couple of days, and I feel like one of these MIGHT be "the one." One of the tones I have really liked is "House of Cards," and I even considered a Tele, I also like Coldplay's Jonny Buckland's tone on "Fix You," and he also uses a Tele, but I don't actually like Teles as much when I personally play them, lol. 😂 And here is your video wrapping up with that song... It stopped me in my tracks, I stood there stunned, and my jaw dropped! 😲 I'm looking forward to trying this one out in person! Thank you for the vid! ☺️👍 Also, while we can all create our own unique tone, may I ask what were the key effects used to get the tone for "House of Cards," if it doesn't take too much of your time. 🙂 Thank you so much! ☺️👍 Great playing, also! Great variety!
Thanks 😊 About the tones in my “House of Cards” version: For the rhythm part, it's mainly the Kingsley overdrive at low gain into Timeline on tape delay emulation, with some VCA compression from the Sonuus Voluum; Club King on Neck PU. Bass part is Voluum doing compression into M5 on “Bass Octaver” model. Lead is similar as rhythm, but with Club King on Bridge PU, ProStage Remote Wah (mounted under the board) used as a clean boost to push the Kingsley further into overdrive, and Timeline on same preset, but with delay mix and repeats turned up quite a bit.
Treating myself to one tommorow been promising I’d get one since it dropped. Now hearing it can do all this glitch stuff the excitements doubled. Nicely done demo brother, really flexed the lvx’s muscle 💪
Do you know if there is a video or manual discussing how to send midi patterns from the AR to multiple synths? Also, how many tracks would I have to sacrifice on the AR to play multiple voices on the Peak and a single voice on the Minitaur? Awesome video and love the setup!
Thx :-) Each of the 12 AR tracks + the FX track can send MIDI notes on individual channels. Those tracks are basically monophonic, but you can get up to 3 notes playing at (almost) the same time from a single track, and even more polyphony through overlapping notes. Check my vid ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DqciPlm27wA.html 😎
thx :-) Bottom left are the mini expression knob and dual footswitch controlling the Pirate MIDI Bridge4 controller. The dual footswitch goes up/down through 5 banks on the Bridge4. The mini expression knob has different functionality on each of those banks (looper level, reverb mix, delay mix, tremolo depth, volume adjust +/- 6 dB)
@@TheGuacamoleXplosion that sounds like a brilliant setup. If you were starting today, would you still use the Bridge4 with accessory switches? I’ve been looking at bridge6, Morningstar 6 pro, etc. Maybe a smaller unit with accessory switches is the way to go instead.
@@armandosinger For my setup, the Bridge4 made more sense: I like my pedalboards compact, with the best use of space (i.e. Tetris). Bridge6 wouldn't fit that well. And since I use that external dual switch only for paging up/down, I don't need LEDs on those switches. So a Bridge6 would not have an advantage over Bridge4+external dual switch. But that is only for my board size and use case 🙂
it’s an eBow; a device that will make a guitar string vibrate by creating an electromagnetic field. Jónsi of Sigur Rós uses an actual Cello bow to play this guitar part (as he does on most Sigur Rós tracks). I neither have an actual bow, nor any skills to operate it, so the eBow had to do the job 😀
Stumbled on to this over at TGP. Outstanding demo, better than most of the usual "influencers". Very nice playing as well, very tasteful stuff! I was curious about these guitars and your demo has increased my interest significantly (my checking account does not thank you for this, haha). Question: do you get some of that semi-hollow "air" in the tones? Some semi-hollows I've played do it, and some don't, sounding more like their solid body counterparts.
Thx! About “air”: I guess this is somewhat subjective. I had a Gibson ES-135 Ltd. before, and I would say it’s comparable on both, both sound more like a solid body than like a full-hollow guitar.
Excellent demo! Thank you for helping to ensure these wonderful old machines won't get forgotten (hopefully). Now, I must get my SK20 down from the attic...
this is so great to see a video of someone having so much brain and skills. Thank you. Do you send CC's to your synth using the AR ? also can you do come sort of rising saw/slope automation on those CCs ? Thank you :)
Hi Louis, thanks! Unfortunately, the AR cannot send CCs. Those Elektron machines sometimes have strange weaknesses: I do get that they sometimes have the approach “limitations can ignite creativity”, and also, “let’s give our various machines distinct profiles, so that people will buy more different Elektron boxes”. But stuff like “AR can do parameter slides, but no MIDI CC output; while DN can do MIDI CC output, but no parameter slides; so NEITHER can sequence fluid CC changes” kinda bugs me.
@@TheGuacamoleXplosion lol. yeah it's crazy, especially considering the price tag. if they want us to buy more elektron they could work on the connectivity/link between their own machines, instead of limiting basic functionality. if something has an encoder then it can send the value. In any case I was prepared for that and will have to grab my pyramid live as well, no problem. Thank you so much for your answer !
Hey bud, just wondering how to create a 3 button looper control with just the essentials from scratch? The sequential mode has got me scratching my head!
If you want to use it for the Stomp/Stomp XL, too, I would suggest to download my config. If you open two browser windows, each one running the Bridge editor software, you can easily copy/paste a full bank, or a footswitch with all its commands, from one window to the other. So if you just want my looper control bank, copy/paste it. If you just want the REC, PLAY and STOP switches (without the Undo/Reverse one), copy those 3; but make sure to stick with same footswitch numbers, since I use SmartMessages directed at specific FS numbers. The thing is: If you want REC and PLAY to work *on press* rather than *on release*, those two footswitches cannot be sequential; since currently, sequential mode will allways switch on release. So you need the STOP footswitch to be sequential, and carry the sequencer status / LED colours. PLAY then has a SmartMessage in the PRESS stack sending STOP to the sequential step with green LED and PLAY command. I want REC to go rec=>dub=>play=>dub=>play etc., as on most loopers. For this to work on a Stop switch, I need sequential steps to be 1. nothing (just label "Stop", LED black) 2. jump back to Step 1 3. Record (red) 4. Stop, and jump back to Step 1. 5. Overdub (LED orange) 6. Stop, and jump back to Step 1. 7. Play (LED green) 8. Stop, and jump back to Step 1. 9. jump back to Step 5. So whenever I hit STOP, looper will stop. PLAY will send the STOP footswitch to step 7. REC is the complicated one: It will first "Queue next sequential step" (i.e. go up 1 step without triggering its message), then "increase sequential step" (i.e. go up 1 more step, this time triggering the message), on the STOP footswitch. Took me a while and some amount of testing to figure this out, but now it works pefectly 🙂
This is amazing! Well programmed, played, and post produced. Congratulations! And you are giving these files away?! Kudos to you! Already downloaded them, and looking forward to testing things out. Just need to go buy an expression knob now =) I see you have added json for bridge6 as well. How is that differently configured?
thanks! This is the public version of the files I made ... my private ones are a bit different, since I normally play through real amps, so instead of the amp/cab block, there is a HX effect loop block containing the Kingsley Page TS; and that effect loop block can control the gain and volume of that Kingsley tube overdrive. Also, have the ProStage Remote Wah mounted under the board, so I don't need a HX wah block and still can switch on wah at any time. But delay, reverb and modulation control is identic to my private version 😎
thanks! I haven't thoroughly A/B'ed them yet ... but the Stomp seems not too shabby as audio interface. Since the Stomp is fully digital anyhow, I guess in theory, quality is even better when recording directly from the Stomp via USB, compared to: Same digital signal being D/A converted in the Stomp, then again A/D converted in the RME 🥸
I have watched thousands of gear videos over the past 10-15 years, and this is one of the best I've ever seen in terms of the preparation and execution. Props! The sound pack is also phenomenal.
thx ... the 25 is a rather simple synth, so I never cared too much about presets, you get everywhere fast on your own. I think loading from the sub37 is not possible, since the 37 has more sonic options (2nd LFO, mod matrix etc.) that are not available on the 25.
First off: Really nice board, video, production and playing. Congratulations! You have implemented the Bridge and the Stomp really nicely. I would love to see a vid where you go through (explain) what the different switches and modes on the Bridge interact with the Stomp! It’s almost unbelievable that all the looping for this video was done on this board alone! It surpasses my usage of the HX Looper by far 😂
Thanks! I’m planning a dedicated vid on the HX + Bridge4 combo; just waiting for the next larger Bridge4 firmware update which will hopefully finally allow me to build full looper control “on press” - currently, starting a loop and going into overdub only works “on release”. You can see a bit already in the previous vid: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6zlUFzPv87E.html Basically, my process was to create a CC implementation sheet for the HX Stomp, and then set up my HX template presets accordingly. Like, Delay Subdivisions are always routed to CC97, Delay Feedback to CC98, Delay Mix to CC99 etc.; looper MIDI parameters are mostly fixed, except level (which I set to CC82). Then, I made 5 banks on the Bridge4, each with a specific focus; I started out differently in the previous vid, current version as used in this vid is: Bank 1: Looper Control (Mini expression knob will control looper level) Bank 2: Basic Tone with 4 drive gain/level settings, 3 compression settings, 8 levels of reverb decay, wah/volume/LFO wah (expression knob does reverb mix) Bank 3: Delay Control with 6 subdivisions, 8 feedback levels, 7 scale settings and 4 delay modulation levels (expression knob does delay mix) Bank 4: Modulation & whammy/Pitch (expression knob does trem depth) Bank 5: Live performance, with switches for stepping through the HX presets, hold functions assigned to quick-jump to certain presets (used those when I played a gig with 3 different acts/bands with this board), and two performance switches for various sound variations, one latched, one momentary (expression knob does +/- 3dB guitar level) On the looper control bank, switch 1 is rec/dub (hold for toggling half/full speed). Switch 2 is play (hold for pan to center). Switch 3 is undo/redo (hold for toggling reverse/forward). Switch 4 is stop (hold for toggling pan left/right).
Really interesting and impressive integration. Hopefully, someday soon, I will find the time to do something similar, because your playing and noodling was really pleasing. Especially interesting is the panning thing. Is that done in the HX looper?
@@toreriksolem no, not in the looper. There are different ways to do panning on the HX; me, I’m using the mixer that appears at the end of a parallel path. There, you can do panning and volume control without sacrificing one of the 8 effects blocks. In most of my presets, I don't actually use parallel functionality: I have the parallel path with nothing on path A and a compressor on path B. Then in the mixer, path A is mute, path B carries the signal. The mixer offers two level parameters (level B and overall level) as well as path B panning. All 3 can be targets for MIDI CCs or expression pedals. I use overall level for volume pedal (controlled by the Lehle Expression pedal), and level B as trim-volume, controlled by the mini expression knob via Bridge4 bank #5.
@@TheGuacamoleXplosion Just watched the video you linked to above. It does indeed have a bit more detail on how you are combining the Bridge4 and the Stomp. By the way, do you know the Pirate Aussies? Simon has been publishing some Bridge/Strymon integration videos lately. I am quite sure they would dig your videos too. Maybe I should suggest you did a collaboration on the Stomp. Or simply, they should pay you to do it for them 😅
One of the better synth spotlights I’ve seen! This is a great demo. Fun to watch and highlights the best parts of this keyboard in a great way. FWIW, I’m the proud owner of an Sk50d. Wonderful old boards!
thx! I'm using the “Organic Drum Pack” from theproducerschoice.com, but also the on-board analogue machines and some other samples, like free drum machine samples from the web and some own samples
Great relaxing video! Did you paint the Lehle rubber blue yourself or it is available to order from Lehle? So am I able to connect a dual switch and a Lehle expression to the HX Stomp with the TRS Y-cable? And what do you control with the Lehle via the USB cable?
neither, my daughter spray-painted it for me ☺️ You can connect a Lehle expression and ONE switch to the HX Stomp with the Y-Cable (or alternatively, two switches, OR two expression pedals). On this board, both the dual footswitch and the mini expression knob control the Pirate MIDI Bridge4 Controller, which then sends MIDI signals to the HX Stomp. So I can have the Lehle act as a volume pedal, and the expression knob controls reverb mix at the same time. Or in another preset, Lehle does whammy and expression knob controls volume.
