I was blessed to have him play on one of my songs back in the 90s .It was a hard Rock Metal song and he Knocked it out of the park.He is a true master of his craft no matter what genre.
i agree that there are good bass players out there that us picks, never said that bass players who use picks suck, i just think its more impressive when a bass player doesn't use a pick simply because its more challenging. Picks can give beginner bassists an edge (particularly with speed) that they could other wise build up with their fingers through the means of practice and dedication.
play style is irrelevant when it comes to the skill of a bass player. There are many talented bass players that use a plectrum to play. Dick Lovgren uses warwick basses for example.
