Ryan Martinie, Robert Trujillo, Evan Brewer, Jon Stockman and Amos Williams got me into Warwick. The rock bass stuff is great for the money and I would stick with this company for life if I had the money.
Likes Ryan Martinie and BTBAM? The man has great taste! And Ryan's tone on the Beginning of All Things to End is my personal favorite, and is why I bought a NT Thumb 5...
6 years too late on this, but Ryan Martinie...Ryknow, BR BR DENG, Ru-d....was not the bass player on The Beginning Of All Things To End (originally titled Kill I Oughta). That would be Shawn Barclay.
Not the case when Nick plays in a technical death metal/grindcore band with guitars tuned to B or drop A. For any sort of note definition in that, extremely hectic, setting you NEED the click. You're just not the target audience here.
You are probably right - but for the sake of demonstrating your equipment and abilities, I find it entirely useful to dial in your tone according to your surroundings.
I'd say it's more important to show off your personal tone when making an in depth video about why someone is associated with a brand, what he does and why he does it. But, hey, it's all personal preference. Personally I think it sounds absolutely amazing.
