@Escu Dero Unfortunately in National Team Del Piero never convinced totally and disappointed many times, I know that...but Di Natale did not much better and against Spain Donadoni played with Aquilani who has never been at the height of the Italian National Team...generally but especially against Spain the heavyweights Cannavaro, Gattuso and Pirlo (+ Totti that refused) would have been surely lethal!

This was a France team in rebuilding phase. Their last trophy in 2000, it took 18 years to win something big again. Similar to Italy post 2008. Italy was in transition in Euro 2012, WC 2014 & Euro 2016. And now it they have won a major trophy again. Interestingly currently, both Spain & Germany are in a rebuilding phase. But Spain is a bit more polished. The stronger & established Euro team now is definitely France. It would be interesting to see in World Cup 2020, with stronger Spain (they had striker issue, same with Italy), established France, question marks for team such as Germany, Netherlands, Portugal and how Italy gonna carry their momentum.

It was the Italian Federation that was full of Apathy and Carelessness towards the Team in terms of Selection, Training and Grooming throughout between 2008 and 2018. Teams that are in Transition do not exit in the Group-Stages in consecutive World-Cups and not even qualify for the next. Italy was completely dead between 2008 and 2018.

Portugal became champions despite finishing third in a really easy group (the didn't even win a group game) and only won 1 game out of 7 in 90 minutes. That is just awful. Perché pur pareggiando 0-0 la Spagna si dimostrò di gran lunga superiore in quella partita. Non sono uno di quelli che si basa sul "vincere meritatamente", questo perché sono dell'idea che una vittoria è meritata SEMPRE quando si fa 1 gol in più dell'avversario. Però, basandosi sul gioco, la Spagna del 2008 si guadagnò pienamente il passaggio del turno. In ogni caso, se ben si fosse passato il turno, non me la sarei sentita di sottovalutare la Russia. Quest'ultima battè l'Olanda del 2008, la favorita di quel torneo che dominò il girone di ferro, battendo l'Italia 3-0 e la Francia 4-1. L'Italia del 2008 invece fece 1 sola partita degna del titolo di Campioni del Mondo in carica: ossia Francia 0-2 Italia. Per il resto la Nazionale si dimostrò ben al di sotto delle attese.

who would have done better? maybe some but not many, 2006 was truly a generational change that's why losing those penalties hurt so much because everybody knew many key players were retiring and some other important players were losing their level as time passed.
