I'm 46 years a Quo fan, i seem all line ups, I've only been to one gig since Rick's passing in Dublin 3 arena, it was a great gig with local lad riche malone in Rick's boots, im going to Belfast in May and looking forward to probably the last QUO concert I'll see cant wait, rock on Quo for as long as you can
I could listen to Francis all day, and he could probably do that. Saw two of his Tunes & Chat shows which were great. Just so likeable with genuine enthusiasm and honesty.
Thank you for the interview, you always ask searching questions and generally sensible ones! I'll be seeing Quo twice this summer for what will likely be the last hurrah 👌
I met Francis last year in Epsom in his Tunes and Chat tour. He's been a hero of mine since the early 70's and I learned to play guitar from him by playing along to all the Quo records. I told him this and then spent a good 7 or 8 minutes talking about playing. Didn't expect that at all. He is definitely under rated as a guitar player and he really made me feel as though I'd known him all my life.
A thoroughly enjoyable interview. He’s far more self depreciating than I expected. I like when he went off tangent and reminisced about various anecdotes, particularly those of Peter Green. I believe Paul Weller is good pals with him having been an avid Quo fan from his younger pre Modfather days. I was never a big fan of Quo - being a psych buff I preferred the earlier stuff, however I feel the urge to tuck into an early to mid 70s ‘classic Quo’ boogie sandwich! Thanks again. 🤓👍🎸
@doccyclopz 100% Jeff Beck for Nigel. I remember watching a doco on the Yardbirds and every time Jeff Beck spoke, I could've sworn it was Christopher Guest doing Nigel Tufnel. He was even wearing the same sort of clothes. Hilarious. Love Jeff Beck to bits though. 🎸
I saw Quo’s final show as The Frantic Four in Dublin in 2014. What a swansong, lots of their early hard, rocking blues stuff came out that night! brought back exciting memories of my teenage years in the early 1970s! Soon after of course, we lost Rick and Alan so I’m really grateful to have seen them live. Funny moment that night, as we were leaving the 3 Arena in Dublin, a disappointed voice in the exiting crowd was heard to say “they never played rockin all over the world”. It’s actually true to say that there are many people who didn’t realise what that concert was going to be all about, the original four guys putting it all out there for the world to see. I’ve never seen Quo Lite (that’s what I call the later lineups) show and I’d have no problems with them at all. Just never saw them.
Great relaxing interview Barry. I think Francis would have carried on for another couple of hours 😂 I am a massive fan of Quo, loved them since I was a young lad. I really enjoyed it 😀👍🏻
Quo never changed from who they were.. the learnt from the psychedelic era trends come & go, but unapologetically stayed true to themselves & ever compromised, you go see Quo, you hear a hard rocking band & you’ll have a great time.. pure & simple. I was a big fan for many years, not as much as I was now, I still enjoy them at 72.
He's nothing like an "old" man with the way he acts. More like a 25 yr old living the life. Loved Quo since I was a lad, even before I knew what rock was about. Loved along with the likes of Slade, Sweet, Wizard, Suzi Quatro, and ELO... Thanks for this interview, it dug up long forgotten memories.
Loved the interview. Whatever you think of Quo, I’ll bet you’re toe will be tapping along whether you like it or not. And as for young Francis, sort of bloke you could spend an evening with enjoying his stories.
Saw Quo in Australia in 06. They were supporting Deep Purple. It's fair to say that the majority of people like me had primarily come to see Purple. Quo were fantastic. Heaps of energy. Tight as a drum. Whipped the crowd into a frenzy. By the time DP hit the stage, the audience had little energy left, and Purple were really good.
Francis is as magical as ever and its horrible to think that there will be no more Quo in concert. I was always hoping, after seeing Little Egypt play, that Nick could take over the vocals for Francis and Quo could continue on.
What a nice open, honest man...very humble too, i loved dustpipe...i first heard it in Germany. Along with paper plane...brilliant songs, many more but i drifted away to ELP 😂😂😂😂 and Jethro tull doobies. ...great interview, thanks❤
Thank you ... Enjoyable and interesting video. 🙂 Francis Rossi comes across as someone you could enjoy a beer with while talking about most things. Circa 1975/6 when car 8 track players were the thing at the time, I had Status Quo's 'Piledriver' album cassette. My favourite track on that was 'A Year', which I listened to time and time again. Also loved Status Quo's more 'kick ass' rock stuff over the years. His complimentary remarks about Peter Green reveal what a special guitarist he was in his earlier years and evidently Ian Anderson thought so too.
Agree on 'A Year'. Although sung by Rossi, it was written by Lancaster, who, along with some of Quo's best heavier stuff, also wrote some of their best ballads ('Blue for You' being my personal favourite). A Year was apparently written 12 months after a death of someone he knew: "Lonely Sunday morning, rest in peace, my love. You've been sleeping so long, a year has gone." The descending bassline in A-minor perhaps represents the feeling of bereavement, and the harmonies are 'Beatlesque' in quality. Great song.
🖕You dudes that think they should have folded decades ago!!. Why are you watching him then?? Just so you can be grumpy old men in the comments rattling on about Spud and nuff and Rick, quo with them ended when they left, but Quo without them has entertained millions since. Not been able to look forward to the next tour is sad for me. Should they have called it quits when Roy left?? No! I didn't think so. Go Quo 💪💪
Francis is a great fellow. Met and spoke with him loads of times. The hard part is getting him to shut up, he does love a chat. I hope quo continues to tour even if its only limited to the UK. but I get it, none of us are getting any younger. I cant do what I did when I was 30.
It doesn't seem right without Rick sitting next to him, they always played off one another in interviews. I've seen Quo many times, the last two times being the Frantic Four reunion shows, but I haven't seen the band without Rick, I guess I miss him there too. Quo in the Seventies was a mighty thing.
Quo is where boogie woogie, metal and light entertainment intersects. That sounds like a slam, but when we were kids, we grew up listening to Francis and the boys, cheeky chappies all. Love me some Paper Plane and Caroline.
I was a massive frantic four fan love the old Quo,but just cannot listen to Rossi interviews find him so annoying, that said really enjoy your channel in general credit to you and keep up the good work
Hi from Paris Yes great funny interview As a teen in the early/mid 70s i really liked the denim/ boogie Quo. They were pretty big and popular in France at the time, probably more so as i recall than other British hard rock acts. Then ACDC became cool on. Actually i started on bass playing SQ numbers...
Well I’ve done quite a few shows with Earthband supporting SQuo and they still sound great , musically there is no reason to quit but Francis loves doing his solo show .
Quo's music has changed over the years. Different producers different line ups etc. All good but if you liked the way their music sounded early 70's then check out Status Quotes who have perfected that sound.
I seem to be on the same page as Francis, never going to be old, cancel culture crap, like loads of different music, etc...I believe he likes the pet shop boys as well, I was in a Rush Tribute, love the band but all that masturbating stuff about music does my head in as well. NICE INTERVIEW.
Frank Zappa was always a "liberal" opposed to the far right and the right wing in general. He wouldn't have cancelled anyone but he wouldn't shy away from calling the right religious nuts, fascists and now actual Nazi's.
That video was bands voted for by my subscribers, but generally I do feel they should have stopped when Rick passed. Seen Quo live many times - great live band
Been a fan of quo since i was a kid but time they packed in now, embarrassing and rossi seems to talk in riddles. Rick was the man for me, a jolly all round guy i would have liked to have had a pint with
Painful.. embarrassing. I loved Quo back in the day, 'Down Down' era, saw them four times.. lost interest in them when they became a pop band, post rockin' all over the world and then parted company with John C. and then Alan L. 'Quo' was my favourite album.. Alan Lancaster's influence..
@@pauladams3057 what about Rick's tracks Without you and When I was fallin' in love? Pretty schmaltzy. Everyone had a soft side ad Rick was a cabaret singer and loved all that type of stuff. He out popped Rossi.
My God, he is defending the Don't Stop covers album ! That album is pure shite, and has nothing in common with the '70's Quo ! And about the end of Quo, please STOP now, they should have quit the touring after the 2014 Frantic Four shows. After Parfitt died, it was really over !
@@user-or5ms5mv6s been a Quo fan since 73 as much as I love the band in my opinion they’ve made more bad albums than good. Saying that the ones that are good are on a different level .
If he didn't do music he could have been an ice cream man! Two others. John Spencer from the Spencer piano company. Became snooker world champ instead. Syd Barratt. Dumped the chocolate factory for Pink Floyd.
Don't stop, absolute crap. Typical of him since he became anti frantic four. Just pack it in. Always wanted to be Francis Rossi Quo since he kicked out Spud.
Got a Rossi replica guitar, Autographed by Rossi, Rick, Matt Letley and the current bass player that should never have been in Quo. It's for sale if your interested. Loved Rossi and the frantic four, but I now find the bloke embarrassing and very hard to watch.
Psychedelic period: if you go into that you should theoretically come out a completely different person. If you don’t then you weren’t there long enough or/and you didn’t dig deep enough . Erm… which is it in this case dja think?
Surprised to hear his dismissal of re-mixing the Pip Williams stuff - shows a curious lack of awareness of his own music to me. A combined re-mix of a combo of Rockin' All Over the World & Whatever You Want albums for example would sell very well - you've only to hear some of those songs live that sound simply lifeless on the record (Hold You Back, Dirty Water, You Don't Own Me; many others) to realise how good they could have sounded given sufficient 'beef'. Yeah, ok Williams wouldn't like it, but fk him, should never have been let near Quo imo.
@@TaxingIsThieving You’re not seriously suggesting that it’s appropriate to refer to two talented singers who you’ve put on stage as “eye candy”????? Flipping hell
@@robertmiller3750 Still doesnt answer the question... Why are you still here? Since you believe Francis is milking it since Rick snuffed it. Why havent you moved on and found another band to have a BS opinion on? Ive been a Quo fan since 1978. I still to this day attend 6 to 8 Quo gigs per tour.
I've heard him interviewed before. Bit of an odd fella, not at all what you expect from the music. Quite self deprecating, which might be a self defense mechanism he's developed down the years considering the marmite nature of the music. I think his woke views are a bit simplistic, I won't be turning to him for any insightful social commentary. Definitely more a disciple of boogie woogie and early white American rock n roll than anything more progressive and experimental. I personally always found Quo a bit boring, and it sounds like Rossi may be at the heart of that, being resistant to experiment. Can't knock the guy for his career though, for good and bad the name Status Quo has been in the British lexicon for 60 years.
