Koji Attwood performs his transcription of Francisco Tarrega's "Recuerdos de la Alhambra" at the 2009 International Society of the Friends of György Cziffra concert.
I was amased to know that Tarrega's tremoro piece on the guitar can be played on the piano with such elegance and beauty. Thnak you for your efforts to play this piece on the piano.
He does not play a real tremulo but a group of each note,th 1, 2 and 3 fingerss in sucession I think. But I may be wrong. Neverthless ot is the way I play this piece. And it seems the same sound.
This is one of my favourity pieces. I never thought that it could be played properly on a piano. But your performance makes the piano as delicate and touching as a guitar. All the soul of Francisco Tárrega is in here. Thank you.
I am listening in times of Covid, and this is a breathe of fresh air, free of anything other than profound nostalgia and sweet sorrow. I love how mr. Attwood plays it. Congratulations.
I was thought same. "I was amased to know that Tarrega's tremoro piece on the guitar can be played on the piano with such elegance and beauty. Thnak you for your efforts to play this piece on the piano".
Fantastic Performance!!! I could not stop listing to this recording. Thanks for sharing it on RU-vid as in our part of the world where only "Boere musiek" and Gospel is high in fashion we can not obtain good music therefor it is much appreciated.
Tremolo on the guitar is just repeated notes on the piano, but Koji made it not just a simple repetitive notes spam, but he made it really sound like tremolo but on the piano! Magnificent! It’s amazing that tremolo on the guitar can be changed in to “tremolo piano skill”, and that’s a full transcription by our favorite Koji Attwood. By the way, please check out his piano transcription of the Tchaikovsky’s fourth symphony. It’s mind blowing and magnificent!
I myself used to play a guitar and this tune was one of my repertoire. I'm so impressed by this played by piano. Tremolo is triplet in classic guitar, but he plays with quintuplet or more? and smoother than guitar. And I was so impressed whe he raised one octave in the middle.
@@kojiattwood Wow! I didn't expect a comment from the player himself.Technically,I say this tune is intermediate. Usually, tremolo is played p(thumb/low sound)-a(third finger)-m(middle finger)-i(index finger)-p-a-m-i-........... but some players play like p-i-m-i-p-i-m-i- to play tremolo more evenly. Different fingers tend to create different sound. Cause shape of the fingertips and nails are different. This tune is superb especially when it's played with expression and emotion. And you did it very well. I listen to this again and again.
@@verdemesa2904 The different fingers/different sound aspect is something that hadn't occurred to me, how interesting! I also transcribed the Capricho Arabe (dedicated to Jason Vieux), but tricked it out a lot more than this, which I wanted to preserve the original texture as much as possible. Thanks again for listening--
@@kojiattwood happens when we play the guitar and thus we guitar players polish our nails everyday. I found your Capricho Arabe and that was also one of my repertoire lol. Your performance is excellent,it's very good as it is. But in spite of your aim,it's different from Capricho árabe we know. That's what I felt. I prefer your Recuerdos de la Alhambra much more.
Que Hermosa Música!!! Es admirable como toca todo de memoria Algún día la tocaré en mi teclado cuando tenga la partitura !!!Felicidades al Painista...la música es universal..
Such a beautiful rendition of Tarrega's piece in the piano. Though the music has a sad emotional undertone to it, yet it is very soothing to the soul :)
Astounding. Not just for the technical accomplishment, which I thought was impossible for this piece, but also because it's a wonderful interpretation of the piece, regardless of the instrument. And not just the phrasing and tempo; it shows a wonderful understanding and control of the piano's tone. Of course, Tarrega meant it for guitar: He couldn't have imagined this was possible on the piano.
Very nice. Maybe if vary a bit and don't use the tremolo the whole time, but rather use it to lift or quite the mood as needed from time to time, it would create even better surprise to the listener and thus would make one feel more like been told a touching story and thus an even better experience. Just my 2 cents.
Agree. This is lovely but too faithful to the original. And the original was expanded into a duet too, as far as I know. The original may seem perfect but it would have been interesting to see what could be enhanced or even whether it have a different take that still works.
So do I, but I don't play the guitar, so this is the only way for me to selfishly indulge actually playing the piece. Thankfully one can always listen to the guitar version
@@kojiattwood Your preformation is 10+ but there is something in this piece that is makes special when is played on guitar :D Alhambra is amongst my fav. places on earth, and guitar or laud is best acoustic representation of that visual beauty!
@@milanradulovic3915 oh, absolutely I agree. There is something very special and magical with the sound world of the acoustic guitar that this piece brings out!
