Franck Cello Sonata, Contraforte 

Wow! I thought this sonata was challenging on bassoon, but I never imagined it played on contrabassoon or contraforte. Shows what a versatile instrument the contrafort is. Really stretches the upper limits of the instrument. I wish I had known about this recital since I live in SF. Great job!.

That Franck Violin Sonata is played by every Instrument in the Orchestra!!!

Kris King The Contraforte is a big contrabassoon. This is really a Violin sonata that's been arranged for Cello by Jules Delsart. It's the last piece Jacqueline Du Pre played before she passed away.

Contraforte has such a Biiiiig sound oh my gosh

Franck's work is not a cello sonata but a violin sonata. It was arranged for cello by just taking most of the solo part down an octave. This changes the voicing of the harmony; in places the solo line, which should be on top, is somewhere in the middle, contrary to what Franck intended. Here, the solo part is taken down a further octave, which makes the voicing even worse.

I meet it like Violin sonata.
