This is a great voice which only a few come close to. No cheating just pure open throat sound with squillo that fills the theatre and overpowers the orchestra and the listener Bravo 👏
John Blasiak Corelli seems so humble with his bows. When he sings the word speranza I am always thrilled. He sings it so magnificently! So glad we have this recording.
@@maggiedeveney Yes. Corelli didn't have only beautiful and powerful voice, but he was so humble, which is the most beautiful characteristic of great men. Look at Domingo: he is already 80 years old and he is not going away. He is so full of himself.
I fear there will never be a better tenor than Corelli, because there is no room for any improvement on his work. This is a great example, but, subjectively, it is even more impossible to better his rendition of Celeste Aida.. ..un trono vicino al sol...
people can be better than him. but the problem is that not everyone works hard enough... to be better than any artist, you need to work harder than them, Corelli worked insanely hard, not anyone can work as hard as legends like him, there will be someone as good as him, if they just work harder than him, which i highly doubt anyone will in the next 100 years.
@@palpalonpalpalon as a very hardworking 20 year old tenor, I hope someone might say something like this about me later too…. Well, back to work for me then!
@@alexanderkondratov you can 100% do it. corelli didn't have superpowers, he practiced insanely hard, and started at the age of 30... good luck on your journey!
What an amazing talent. He makes it look so easy. And so I think "hey, I can do that". And then I try. And then the police comes to pick me up again...
Most people call his greatest year 1964, when he was in his mid 40’s. A tenor like Pavarotti peaked much earlier, but Corelli had a lot of vocal issues to deal with before achieving the status of a very great singer, which he certainly was. But 1971 is late Corelli and he retired just a few years later.
@@ransomcoates546 Yeah, he started singing late, over thirty. But his career as competition swimmer must have given him a headstart regarding lung capacity and breath control. Anyway, he retired when still big, which is more than can be said about others of his generation or later.
Only the police? You are lucky. If I tried in such a way as other people could hear me I would be dragged away by "those nice young men in their little white coats" because they would be "coming to take me away, to the funny farm..."
I'm sorry, but for whatever reason, no form of mechanical reproduction successfully conveys the absolutely startling size and brilliance of Corelli's top notes as heard in person...sad...
This is ETERNAL!!!!! THIS IS FOREVER!!! THIS IS HEAVENLY!!!! I MUST BE HONEST WITH YOU FRANCO CORELLI IS IN HEAVEN WITH A VOICE THAT LIVES FOR ETERNITY!!!!!!😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👏👌👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👏👏👏👏👏👏👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👏👏👏👏👏👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
That’s bc he’s a spinto tenor, which means that he has a much darker color in his timbre. Plus it sounds a little more powerful than a lyric tenor. You’ll hear a difference when you listen to Corelli and Pavarotti
Si è pazzesco. È poi mi vengono a parlare fi Pavarotti.
Corelli was really great! But i thougt, this aria was composed a half note higher🙄! But the great Pavarotti did the same in live performances, and many other famous tenors too! Perhaps listen to Gregory Kunde! He sang always in the original key! For example „Il trovatore“ both great arias, „ah si“ and the famous „Stretta“ with TWO verses! And a brillant high c in the end! Any questions😳
Every time I hear him sing I realize how much he adjusted as he aged. At this point he may have lost that extra range but his voice and interpretation were still better than any tenor I have heard both past and present. His breath control at the end of this aria is amazing.
I was a teen when I would hear Peter Allen announce Franco Corelli would headline a Metropolitan Opera Saturday broadcast. My father listened to the Metropolitan Opera broadcasts throughout my childhood. I listened, but never saw him live. When I took voice lessons, my teacher would use Corelli as a model of supreme technique.
I couldn't even imagine that imitating his totality... I would have hit that B such effortless and loud and So Beautifully! This video may be the beginning of something for me
One of the most dramtic areas of Bel Canto, performed live with the best voices of the time lending some great passion to a very dramatic dilema ... he's betrayed his country for the woman he loves and is willing to die for it; Amneris puts everything on the line to save him if only Radames were to give up Aida and yet he does not and what's more he's happily willing to die for his crime and for Aida. It does not get better than that. Great looking performers ... Franco was what I envisioned a Radames to look like, young, tall, fit, handsome and a beautiful voice 💖💖💖
@@fabriziosarcinelli7566 I didn't say he wasn't! I said I would rather here him sing something else. I don't think this is a good aria for him. That doesn't mean that I don't acknowledge his abilities as a fine operatic tenor. He should make love to this aria, instead he attacks it.
I saw him at the shrine auditorium when I was a kid we were in the last row lol.now that place is hugebut his voice cut all the way to the top row!!!!!!!!Amazing voice one of the "best"!
Scrivo. E come vivo? Vivo. Or che mi conoscete parlate voi. Deh parlate. Chi siete?
