The boat rows great with a Piantedosi drop in rig and sculling oars. It fits over the fixed seat, although I did modify the rails to attach it. The boat slips right along, and could take much more weight safely. The only problem rowing it as a single without a lot of gear is that it sits up high in the water, and is susceptible to wind gusts. I love it - I should make some rowing videos to go along with this one!
@@fwtownsend Would love to see the drop in unit put in and taken out. :) What's the level of comfort, stability wise, when using the sliding seat unit verses fixed seating? I ask only because Dorys often tend to be a little unstable until they have more weight load in them, so sitting low, when empty can be a thing. I assume the sliding seat rig has you sitting a little higher up in the boat? I've found my Merry Wherry with a Piantedosi drop in unit to be less stable than I like, so am thinking about building a CLC Northeaster Dory myself. Thanks for any information! :)
