I think there's a lot of potential in this design to sound more "Germanic" while keeping the great French qualities that I've sought for so long. I need to get this refaced! But I think this might be the rare "dark" sound that is NOT inefficient.
I've loved studying the history of the Kaspars, and how the mouthpieces evolved from Goldbeck to the 1970's. This piece certainly represents a crossroads.

I'm messing around with mics but I think this gives a good idea about that Kaspar

I have a Frank Kaspar 11 (Cicero, Illinois), and I love the darker sound.

I am convinced those ski slope baffles are designed for much softer reeds than we play nowadays. Do you think the deep baffle affects tuning? Throat vs the rest?
@DaleFedele
@DaleFedele 3 года назад
Agreed 100% sir...and yes, the throat is lower. It's just taking so much mental energy to really figure out. I want to mess with it but I'm just not sure of where it fits in the end.

The kaspar sounds a lot darker. Did you adjust the reed for the chedieville?
@DaleFedele

I actually adjusted this particular reed for the Kaspar, so it has an advantage here. Yes, it does sound darker up close...which is always a red flag in my mind. It might not have the potential to really soar...

Kaspar sounds great! Much more depth and solidity to the sound than this particular Ched - might be easier for other musicians to lock on to your sound and tuning in an ensemble as a result

It's funny, I find I blend a lot better with Cheds. The Ched actually has more depth...just not up close.

I think the Kaspar would be better in a pit, mic'd up close, or-dare I say........band??!

The real advantage of this Kaspar is it might have the potential to go down to 1.00mm and give me actual control, instead of the "shovel a bunch of air" approach of almost every other Kaspar I've played (and most modern pieces). That's not to say I don't love medium and open pieces too. I used to play a 1.16mm for a long time.

Can you make a video where you do distance comparisons for some of your top mouthpieces?

I agree with you, and I still feel there is more to be coaxed out with an even better facing. Thank you for listening!
