Clarinet & Saxophone players have had the wool pulled over our eyes! Cheated, we've all been cheated! All of us!
After...twenty-three years of playing reed instrument, Mr. Daniel Bonade finally showed me how to put on a ligature with one of his original block-stamp Patented ligatures. I've been transformed by how I now play, and I can never go back.

I am going to be spending a lot of time paying attention to how I put my ligature on. You may be understanding the idea that this idea is "overlooked". In a lifetime of playing the clarinet and an adult life of making a living playing it and teaching it...I have never heard anybody talk about this way that you do. I am grateful to have heard it. Many thanks

Thank you so much!!! I look forward to hearing your findings!! Also: I'm friends with John DiSanto and Alden Banta (I saw Alden on your channel!!!)

@@DaleFedele for sure Alden and John are two of my favorite people. Alden and I go back to the 90’s when we first got “in the business” in NYC.

To reiterate: I am not advocating overtightening. In my opinion, this way actually helps maintain the shape, as the screws don't distort the circular shape. And, yes, concavity of the table (and where the lig puts pressure on the reed) affects this. But I think it's pretty universal. This even works for me on pieces with totally flat tables.

By the way...I only really discovered & was able to articulate this about a month ago...

I have exact same 1930's ligature German nickel silver with heart shaped screw heads!! It is the best I've ever used. I got it from an antique metal clarinet

I finally got the BD4, BD7 and Selmer Concept and so far I very much like the BD4!! But I will try the BD7 with number 3 V12 and will see. Surprisingly the Selmer works better with lighter reeds too.

How does the Kaspar Ligature fit on the Kaspar Mouthpiece .. Does it lock in, hold the reed well? How's the sound of the Kaspar Lig., in comparison to the Bonade Lig.? Which one's better overall, for Kaspar Mouthpieces?❔ Thx Dale for these Very Telling & Informative Vids!! Wish I could've had this media source of Clainet-information, long ago!

You shouldreview the new LIBRE clarinet ligature sold on ebay

did you check rails for warping on tbe newer bonade? imho thats why reed security is compromisdd. maybe thick lig less likely to distort rails when overtightened?

Dale, I want you to tell me, 24k gold ligatures have a big difference in sound and response from lacquered gold ones?

What is your opinion about Momo ligatures? They are so expensive!
@DaleFedele
@DaleFedele 3 года назад
I've only ever had one...it was gold with vertical rails. It was pretty good, great screw mechanism, held very securely. Unfortunately I didn't really get the "pop" from my sound that I'm addicted to. I sold it to a player in a top orchestra for a lot of money. I'd love to try more variations if they're ever more accessible/cheaper. I still don't think I'd like them more than these 1950's-70's Bonades.

They're okay, but they stretch/bend easily. I'll do a video on those soon.

In my opinion, you put the ligature way up on the reed. I think just a little lower would be better for response of the reed, that's my experience anyway..

Can you demonstrate us how to practice double tonguing?
@DaleFedele

Yes, although I've always had a very good single tongue, especially staccato. My double tongue control is only good in certain registers, but I will still make a video about it.

@@DaleFedele Martin Frost is the master of double tonguing or there are better?
@DaleFedele
@DaleFedele 3 года назад
@@stavroskantsioulis9884 I would say Michael Rusinek is better...because he doesn't need a mic to be heard! The problem with double-tonguing is it messes up my back pressure that I lock into to project in an orchestra. It's a lot easier to just play to a mic/amplification. But in terms of incorporating it into a solo setting, Martin Frost is clearly the standard and an inspiration. So, I guess it's comparing Apples to Oranges. I just really respect the difficulties of conquering a principal role with a very loud orchestra, and all the invisible problems that are unknown to most clarinetists.
