Located in Mason City, Iowa, it is the third hotel designed by Wright and used as a prototype for the Imperial Hotel, Tokyo, which was torn down in 1968. The Stockman House in Mason City, designed by Wright is also included at the end of the video

It is never boring to see his work . I had the exciting experience of meeting him, , in the early fifties. I was college student. The best experience of my life in architecture.

I see a bit of Unity Temple (Oak Park, IL) in the exterior design. Thanks for the video.

I agree. It’s difficult to find the right music but one can always use the mute

Did the Price tower not qualify? It is a hotel. It is working now. It was totally designed by Wright and built under his supervision. What’s up?

I agree. It is now, but not originally. Point taken but the intent of the Mason City hotel was originally a hotel. I heard the Price Tower is beautiful and hope to visit it someday

The Price Tower in Bartlesville, Oklahoma has been converted from office tower to hotel, by Zeda Hadid.

I have a love hate relationship with FLW. I can see a lot of similar things with this hotel and the Darwin Martin House. The skylight on the lobby is refreshing compared to many of his dark prairie style homes. Ah. Those wonderfully uncomfortable barrel chairs! Does the roof leak? Those houses are nice. Some of his lower priced ones given the stucco.

That clacking sound on the second floor was disturbing. Anyway, he wasn't the nicest person, but he sure could design a pretty building.

What's the music all about?
@markdhecimovich2568
@markdhecimovich2568 11 месяцев назад
Truly not representative of anything other than fill. Most video editing apps provide only a limited amount of songs and I have to make a decision on which ones to use. Obviously copyright issues are the driving force. I understand some people don’t like the music and my suggestion is to mute it whilst viewing. However, I do thank you for viewing and sharing this query

It was not originally designed as a hotel but I hear it is magnificent. The Mason City Hotel was designed as a hotel and was the precursor for his Imperial Hotel in Tokyo

Which city is this?
@markdhecimovich2568
@markdhecimovich2568 Месяц назад
Mason City, Iowa. Wright also designed a house there (Stockman) as well as Louis Sullivan, Walter Burley Griffin, who went on to design Canberra, the capital of Australia. Matter of fact Mason City has one of the foremost collections of Prairie-style homes in the world

It's interesting enough for sure but not as obviously his definitively recognizable signature style. In fact to me it is a higher end style of the mass produced nouveau riche, over priced, cheesily constructed wanna be contemporary present day construction of everything from malls, to motel/hotels, to banks, supermarkets and everything else. Almost generic and a stereotypical cliche. How these others can call them selves Architects and Designers are beyond me. They probably will be replaced by AI asap.

Thanks for your comment. For the most part I agree (mass produced buildings of today, including homes) but don’t see this structure, albeit less dramatic than his other work, as anything other than a step towards his eventual classical work
