Frank Lloyd Wright Inspired Bracelet: A Silversmithing Tutorial

This video tutorial shows me making a bracelet that was inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright's designs, specifically his stained glass patterns. I used 4 small rectangular faceted garnets and 3 square smoky quartz cabochons. The materials I used were: 18 gauge sterling silver round wire, 16 gauge sterling round wire, 14 gauge sterling square wire, 3/16 inch fine silver bezel strip in 28 gauge, 22 gauge brass sheet, and 22 gauge copper sheet. As always I am using exclusively hard silver solder, and I use My-T-Flux from Rio Grande. I would rate this one as an advanced project. This video is a bit longer, but is a detailed tutorial, so I think it is worth the watch time. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others, as I've taught people for most of my life. This hobby turned into a fun side gig for me for years while I taught public school. I love suggestions and hearing about others' experiences. What is your favorite project? What kind of tutorials would you find useful?

Oh my. This one is on the list to make this week. I am so glad your channel came up in my suggestions a few weeks ago, it's probably the most inspirational channel I've seen for metal work in a long time. I've actually ordered certain materials that I didn't have just to make some of the designs on your channel. This is such a great design, I am going to make a bracelet, earrings, and pendant with this idea in mind. And this will easily become a ring as well. OK, just gotta do it now. I also will join your Patreon as well, been meaning to do that for a while now. Thanks again for all the inspiration and great tutorials. It is much appreciated.

OMG, just the mention of Pink Floyd threw me back to a hazy room with my teenage hubby and a few friends with "We're two lost souls swimming in a glass bowl... year after year.....wish you were here..." blasting out from the vinyl records we had in those days. oh were we supposed to talk jewellery making here....oops oh and while off topic a message to Edie. Great artwork on the video I just love your humour I knew you had to be in there somewhere lol love it

Inspired Bracelet ‼️Wow it certainly is this is I think one of your best creations ever. It is marvellous. Intricate colourful and yet understated. The open structure shows the smallest stone or flash of colour to best effect. The open wire work concept must now lead to a whole line of wearable wire, I’ve ordered 12M of 1mm from my supplier here in the U.K. my wife will be wearing “copies” for Easter I hope. Well done Chad.

@@chadssilversmithing hi Chad I’ve been rewatching (several times) the bracelet video. The slightly zoomed frame is working well, mostly. However the is another small framing issue that it brings up. I feel bad bringing it up because I have yet to produce an acceptable video of a tabletop production of anything! Please accept this as constructive, and not criticism. The solder work is a great tight frame and shows clearly your work and sometimes the problem of ‘wandering’ or moving components! The problem is that it is very easy lift things up out of shot just as easily as left or right out of shot. When you solder and clean up a bezel you use your left hand and lift the stone out of shot at the top. I’m a better photographer/video than craftsman silversmith but when I’ve worked with a new presenter in addition to the masking tape I’ve used some string as a demo from camera to each corner of the table top (often a sewing machine) Then in ‘rehearsal’ you can see where a hand or object comes out of shot as it is moved for you to examine your work. Please don’t be offended your video work is excellent in very testing setting. A great many of your 2.8k viewers have learned so so much from you that I only hope to help with a improvement to an already outstanding channel. Again thank you for all I have learned and for all your hard work, not just as a craftsman but also in the video editing. Kind regards Keith

@chadssilversmithing Год назад
@@woodndrum303 Thanks for the good advice Keith! I will continue to try to improve the shots and angles. I do have a tendency to move out of frame when I get going and forget that I’m filming things, doh! I appreciate the constructive criticism. I always want to keep improving things:)

Beautiful piece Chad! Saw this on the Patreon Discord channel and “had” to watch you build it. So many pieces and solder joints. Wow! What a stunning piece! It was really inspiring watching you put it all together. How many types of solder did you use to keep the first joins from coming apart during each firing? I assume you started with hard solder, but there were so many different joins I was a little nervous that after all that work, some of the first components would come apart at the end stages of soldering. It would be fun to try something like that, but I am a novice so I probably would not make it quite as complex as that! Really enjoyed this and LOVE the bracelet!

Hi Chad, thank you so much this inspiring design. I will give it go. I have 20g and 24g copper and brass, but not 22g. Do you think either would work? Also, the step bezel technique you used with 18g wire inside the bezel is something I haven't learned yet and seems much easier than using setting burrs. Do you have other videos showing the technique?
@chadssilversmithing
@chadssilversmithing Год назад
Hello Floyee! You're welcome:). For the sheet, I would use nothing thinner than 20. 24 is pretty thin, even more so after some aggressive polishing. Many of my videos show me creating step bezels with wire steps, but here is an early video where I focus on that process: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-n5glS69ifWM.htmlsi=1MHKnlm-KAUsRvJr. Take care:)
