This second piano concerto by Frank Martin is quite different from the foirst one. It begins by a toccata-like solo, then the trumpet takes the lead , then the piano goes on with its toccata style, etc. up to a second section introduced by the saxophon, contrapucted by other instruments, and so on. This is a vigorous but sensitive music, which is quite characteristic of the style of Frank Marin, always close to contrapunctal expression.
