Oh ! Yes I remember !!! it was football from England once a year on french television with that FA cup final !!!!! it was pure magic !!!! the FA cup final looked more important to english football than european cups !!!!!! and Wembley the " cathedral with 100 000 fans cheering for their teams !!!!!! and as frenchman , I was even getting emotional when the 100 000 spectators were singing altogether the " God save the Queen " !!!! what a spectacle !!!!! I became in " love " with english football ever since !!! everything looked so different from the european continent with the " white ball " the uniform they were wearing , I loved the one from Leed United all white and specially the ribbon on their soccs showing the number of the player !!! it was just lovely !!!! and what a game ! very entertaining , very technical with a lot of passes and talented players who were among the best as english teams were wining almost all the european trophies !!!!! I considered Leeds United as one of the best teams in Europe and may be the best in that era and that FA cup final was probably the best one !!! but for sure they were No 1 for being unlucky and robbed !!!!!! I really do miss Leeds United and that " football from England " of the 70 ties !!!!!!!!

Is Frank high? Liverpool won the league in 1972/3, 1975-76, 1976-77, 1978-79, 1979-80 seasons. The FA Cup in 1974. The UEFA Cup in 1972-73, 1975-76. The European Cup in 1976-77, 1977-78 and the European Super Cup in 1977. Leeds won the League in 1973/4. FA Cup in 1972. 1970-71 European Fairs Cup winners. Leeds were finalists in finals and runners up in the league in the 1970’s. Leeds United were the perennial bridesmaid in the 1970’s to Liverpool being the glowing Bride.

Exactly so and how the record books show it.Leeds United simply were not as dominant or did so over as long a time period.But leave the 1979-80 season out of it that's a 1980s title win not a 1970s title win.

@@lyndoncmp5751 yep for sure there was that Leeds Utd spell late 60s early 70s then the LFC domination went full swing, Leeds weren’t a frat football side imo they jst mastered the dirty tactics mixed with raw ability which didn’t work on Europe’s biggest stage as we all know Great side no doubt nonetheless

@@garethmcnaughton2899 Yes indeed. Not taking anything away from that Leeds side, but at their peak Leeds were not as great as the Liverpool side at their peak. Liverpool ruled England AND Europe...at the same time. The Liverpool of 1972-1975 went toe to toe with Leeds of 1972-1975...but the later Liverpool were even better than both.
@fraz6354
@fraz6354 4 года назад
Liverpool were the best team of the 70's by a mile. They won 4 League titles, 2 European Cups, 2 UEFA cups, and 1 FA cup in that decade. The UEFA cup back then was arguably harder to win than the European cup, as it was full of teams who had finished 2nd or 3rd the previous season, and a lot of the time were the best team in their country the season they were in the UEFA cup.

Best team of the seventies was Celtic , who cuffed that so called great Leeds side , home and away , in the European Cup semi-final . Before the ties, Eddie Gray , to his credit , warned all his boastful team-mates that Celtic would prove a much more difficult hurdle to cross than they thought . I remember the English media saying how it was a mis-match and how Giles and Bremner would boss the games. As it turned out , apart from Bremner's fantastic strike at Hampden , both him and Giles hardly got a look in against the majestic Bobby Murdoch and the crafty , Bertie Auld . They made the Leeds pairing look decidedly average . Jimmy Johnstone . The Celts' brilliant number 7, tormented Terry Cooper mercilessly over the 2 legs . Later , Norman Hunter would say ( on the record ) that the Celtic side they played in 1970 was the best club side his Leeds Utd team ever faced in Europe .

Celtic played as many , if not more, competiitive games than Leeds that season . Revie himself said that Celtic were just a better team , simple as that . Don't forget that Leeds had rested most of their first team prior to the Celtic match . Revie had actually sent his right-hand man to Glasgow watch Celtic play Ayr Utd . He reported back to Don Revie that he should be fully prepared for his toughest match of the season , so impressed was he by Jock Stein's Celtic side .

+ThefightingCelt Every genuine football fan or Leeds fan has considerable respect for the Celtic side of the late 60s. There should not really be any animosity. They were two of the greatest teams produced in the British Isles post war. We can't tell howeve,r how well Celtic would have faired in the English first division of the period with so many top sides competing. Leeds were the best of a group that included Man U, Liverpool, Man C,, Arsenal, Everton, Tottenham, Chelsea, Derby and others!

@mizofan
@mizofan 8 лет назад
+dean luff I think it was more Hunter and Charlton than Reaney and Madeley being dirty wasn't it? Ironically, Hunter and Charlton made bad blunders in the "no offside" match v West Brom that lost Leeds the title in 71, whereas Gary Sprake made good saves.
@CB-xr1eg
@CB-xr1eg 8 лет назад
+dean luff I don't know why it's always Leeds that classed as " thugs "...most of the teams back then had hard tough players who would give you a kick. Tommy Smith Ron Yeats Peter Storey Ron Harris...he kicked Eddie Gray for 90 minutes in the FA Cup replay in 1970. Did he get called a thug? McLntock admits in this video that he stood on clarke's fingers. The thing is, unlike todays players they didn't roll around for 2 minutes feigning injury.
@mizofan
@mizofan 8 лет назад
+Clive Bindley Harris was known as Chopper. The Cup final replay was a very dirty match, red cards would be flying for that now. Leeds had more dirty players and Clough pointed out they were infamous as the dirtiest team. Even Revie had to admit they had the worst disciplinary record.
