@@viliusandraitis1456 Still some autotune on it. Kanye West certainly pioneered creative and tasteful use of it, and Frank is showing that off on a lot of music he does (Lens, for example)
Frank Ocean put a higher pitch voice because his fans waited long for the album and hearing his voice for the first time at the end of the song was just magical ✨
I feel like I’m the only one who still prefers the original. Something about the transition to his singing voice for the first time on the album was just so special.
It’s actually not pitched up, it’s just Auto-Tune with the formant setting turned up and the actual pitch-correction/“Auto-Tune effect” turned off entirely. The Weeknd demonstrates the formant effect in Auto-Tune at every setting on Initiation. Gives it a real trippy feeling in that song because it keeps going back and forth between -100% and 100%, getting really “deep” and then really “high pitched”.
M Vinci you can alter format without altering pitch, when you change the notes that’s definitely a pitch shift regardless of tempo. although i def see what ur saying.
He used the higher pitched voice for a reason. It was to convey him being younger. He had reason for what he did, listen to the "Dissected" podcast episodes about Blonde. He didn't just do it to do it and the song wouldn't convey what it does without it.
He actually sings this song in the key you hear it on the album, this is a modified version of the song, there is a live recording of him performing the song on RU-vid so check it out for yourself
You really learn to love the high pitch voice in Nikes. You just need to have patience and no prejudice. To me this feels like if you used the mona lisa as a paper towel. It works well but it has much more to appreciate.
I feel like the original has this vibe that even with the correct autotune can’t recreate or make better I think the song is perfect both ways but that’s personal preference
Since no one else wanted to... Lyrics These bitches want Nikes They looking for a check Tell em it ain't likely Said she need a ring like Carmelo Must be on that white like Othello All you want is Nikes But the real ones just like you Just like me I don't play, I don't make time But if you need dick I got you and I yam from the line Pour up for A$AP RIP Pimp C RIP Trayvon, that nigga look just like me Woo, fuckin' buzzin', woo! This version is actually just pitched down about a fourth from the original; the vocal but also the instrumental. The original sounds like it actually uses a formant shift on the vocals, which is different than pitch shifting or auto tune, to achieve that altered sound. If you listen you’ll notice the first half of this version is in C minor, whereas the version on Blond is in F minor.

listening to this in my bed, beats headphones on, feeling nostalgic for the past couple of years for no reason in particular. glaringly aware that i'll never be this young again. :) bittersweet
People always talk about how Frank isn't the greatest singer because he can't hit certain notes, but I honestly think it's because his voice is so deep and he's incapable of being so vocally flexible. On the flip side I bet you can't ask most people with a voice as deep as his to hit some of the notes he does!
I prepared the original because he pitched his voice up to talk about drugs and sex doing what other rappers would rap about but when he goes into his real voice he changes the topic to a deeper conversation
