I miss him also, a lot! He was my favorite singer all my life. I have a few other favorites, for certain, but no one on earth can really compare with Francis Albert Sinatra, the mold was tossed after his fame broke it and he remained famous! Superb special talent. He has no equal.
Saw him twice live in Las Vegas and both times at the conclusion women were throwing their room keys onto the stage, sometimes with notes attached!! One time he said "No, don't do that." and silence the other. Incomparable!
I certainly don't think his voice failed him during this performance. He sings this with the utmost feeling and emotion I have ever heard. Truly one of his best songs! ❤️
@@carolynbrown7836 His voice absolutely failed him. He had plenty of good nights after this but, his voice got worse and worse. That's just what happens as you get older. It's a rare singer who doesn't lose it. Tony Bennett comes to mind. He was great into his mid 80's. Frankie Lane also. But that's very rare.
@@JP-dw1fp Those who think Frank's voice is good here fall into 2 categories. 1) those with tin ears, can't tell good from bad; 2) those who admire Frank so much that they talk themselves into hearing something they're not. That said... I appreciate the older Frank as a great performer and storyteller, but you can't live on Jack Daniel's and unfiltered Camels and maintain a beautiful voice. It doesn't work that way for anybody, including Frank.
They didn't call him "The Voice" for naught! He truly WAS the voice of the 20th Century! Gone for quarter of a century now, but still going strong in this 21st Century; people just can't enough of the best there ever was! This song is so poignant and he delivers it with the pain and emotion required, yet with such a clear voice! Within the lyrics to this song is: "we’re not like the rest, we once were the best," No, FS was not like the rest and he certainly was the best, and I imagine people still recognize that and seek out his songs today, because he delivers a song like no other! He called himself a "saloon singer" and those saloon ballads were his forté, no doubt about it, but he could command an audience in every venue in the world, from Carnegie Hall in NY to the Royal Albert Hall in Monaco, to a nightclub stage in Las Vegas, he always packed the audience in to hear him, and no wonder -- he really was one of a kind!
I am still yet to see a male vocalist more comfortable and masterful on stage behind the microphone. His pitch perfect and soulful voice simply commands the surrounding space effortlessly. Cheers.
The 20th Century has come and gone, Sinatra's century, and even in this 21st Century, he is still going strong, because there just is no better singer -- still! I've been listening to him my whole life and a would wager (if I could still be around then) that he will still be loved throughout this new century and maybe even into the next, if this world is still here! But even if it is nuked, some future humans, will find the time-capsules here and if they're still intact, wonder who THAT was who's voice was so inimitable and prevalent in THAT century long ago! Something like how we feel now about Mozart Chopin, Liszt, Bach and Beethoven, and others of the Romantic Period and those since, others who made music last! Imagine in 3000, they may be talking about Sinatra, Michel Legrand, Henry Mancini, George Gershwin and many others! Wouldn't it be interesting to hear what they'd say!
How this man could capture and caress a song to totally memorize an audience is a gift no one will ever replicate. I love listening to him and every word he sings swallows into my soul to appreciate what a treasure he was! No one will ever replace him.
So wonderful and with so much emotion! There will never be anyone like Frank Sinatra, I see myself, with my drink in hand, and just closing my eyes and listen to his stories of his music.
Yes he wasn't just a great performer and actor and singer. He was a great human being. I was reading something about how him and Sammy Davis Jr were playing at a nightclub. The manager told Sammy he had to go in the back door. Frank Sinatra stopped him and told the manger that he goes in the front door same as everyone else or I never play here again. And it wasn't just with Sammy Frank didn't like racist people white or black. He saw everyone the same way. As a human being and that was it. He truly was a great person and he loved America.
Probably one of my favorite Sinatra songs. Listen to the phrasing--incomparable. You will never see this again and I long for someone to come along and revive this genre.
Yes, you are so right, the modern pop music is absolute crap, somebody should start writing meaningful lyrics like these and composing pop music like this, they will make a fortune!
Wow! I've listened to him for 60 years but never heard him do this song live. His voice had mellowed by then which made listening to it all the better. So many of his songs brought a tear to my eyes because the effected me so deeply. Thank God for Frank. Love
Magnificent performer and was lucky to see him several times in concert. He held the audience in the palm of hand. But, he went on too long and should have retired by 75. In reading various biographies, his wife and agent pushed and pushed him to keep performing to simply bring in the money. Unfortunately, he was not in control in his later years, clouded by antidepressants forced upon him that affected his memory, and his children were unable to convince his wife and agent to call it quits. Sinatra was incredibly generous to friends and strangers alike over his lifetime, and so its very sad and ironic that those closest to him took advantage of his fame for their own enrichment.
No one can interpret songs the Sinatra way, as he does. There is only one Sinatra and that's Frank. I will be 86 this coming November 30th, 2022 and I've been listening to Frank since I was 12. So sorry he is no longer around, but thank God his records live on for the living to enjoy. SIR James AH KOY KBE
It's really a shame that Sinatra didn't record all that much at this point in his career - especially in the mid- and late 70s, when his voice was still strong, albeit more weathered and mature. Someone should have locked him in a studio with the Bergmans and Michel Legrand and said "you can't come out until you've got 12 new tracks laid down."
...he had many projects conceived, but not started, aborted, or incomplete...for example...Saloon Songs (3 tunes in the can); Here's to the Ladies w/Riddle 3 album project (5 or 6 tunes in the can - aborted); Songs that were never recorded 3 album project - never started; an early Duets project in the 1980's - never started; A bunch of tunes Frank Jr was to produce late 80's (1 or 2 in the can - aborted); Most interesting - 3 album project with - get this - Lena Horne, Michael Jackson, Quincey Jones producer --- never started --- songs were mapped out for project); a multi-album original operatic album by Joe Raposo (Joe died --- young); There were also a bunch in the 1960's: The Italian Album (all songs sung in Italian); Album with Ella (never started); Album with Red Norvo and Sextet (never started)...there may have been a couple of more...what could have been...
What a great suggestion! Wish that could have happened. Sinatra did sing some of their songs, but there does come a time when even the greatest of all time, gets tired performing and if they are a perfectionist, like Sinatra, they quit while they're still ahead of the game!
I love this song so much 😭 I sing along with Frank every time I hear it! The Master! Chairman of the Board! My favorite singer of all time! Mr Sinatra you are the BEST and I miss you very much!
Frank......You always said that you sang from the heart and this song certainly shows us that. I miss you, Francis Albert Sinatra///////////////////Betsy Basile
Why when I was younger Sinatra played daily in our house. You learned the words even though you didn't realise this. Why now have i gone back, and know the words to nearly all Frank's songs songs. Even songs I've never heard are beautiful. Never will there be a singer like, Frank Sinatra. Respect OLE BLUE EYES, and to my dad also.❤🎉😅😊😊 xxxx
A me piace molto la frase della canzone "eravamo i migliori quando eravamo stupidi, come è possibile che siamo diventati così intelligenti su come imparare a distruggere i nostri rispettivi cuori"
We almost made it but we wanted it all, look what we became, isnt it a crying shame, but we almost made it , but we wanted it all. This is a great song by Frank...sadly its about greed.
Frank.....I listen to this song at least 2 times every night. This is one of my favorite songs you did. We all miss you Frank. Please rest in peace...................Betsy Basile
From his album "Trilogy" which I have in vinyl. "You And Me (We Wanted it All)" Lyrics & Music by Carole Bayer Sager & Peter Allen There will never be another singer like this Frank Sinatra. The oldest he got the best, the wisest he got as a singer. He was in a league of himself.
I just loved Frank back in the day. He is so romantic and well, all I can say, Frank is...................................WOW!! Rest in peace.....Love, Betsy Basile
