Help I’m a Rock is super. Franks guitar tone is killer. The improv is something i personally like a lot. He’s a percussion nut. It’s a great warm up and being so avant it’s in my wheelhouse. I don’t need melodies

First disc through. I have a renewed love for the era. Freak Out! was my start point so it’s been while. A great 68 show isnt common either. Coopers interview is ace. Such a great guy in every interview I’ve heard. Here Hendrix. This is a Wah

Great review Ian! Just got the album. Will give it a good spin soon. As for these posthumous releases I find them really interesting. We get to hear how it actually happened. I love that. Frank was the master of editing and he could really locate the juicy bits. That’s true. But since he’s gone it’s the best thing to give us the warts and all shit 😁 Somewhat I get be “there” .

Yeah and that’s helpful for me too, self editing is never easy but I think Frank made a lot of the right choices.

@@ShedSoundsMediawithIanBeabout To me it is so interesting that some things never got used. Like the FZ mixes here or the long, full versions of Transilvanian Boogie on Funky Nothingness. He had so much music in his head that he just laid it by the wayside and moved on. Always evolving.

Ian, I’m curious, what’s an example of a bad Zappa performance to you? (And I know there are quite a few out there.)

@@davenewhouse1708 Erie PA 74 - on the Erie boxed set, is one of the most painful concerts to listen to. Frank has a cold but was forced to perform, he’s making mistakes all over and the band trainwrecks. I felt awful for him. There’s worse performances in the bootleg world but as for official releases that one left me scratching my head as to why it was ever included in the box.

That tour had a good few less than good performances. Mostly on boots for sure. Dick Barbers tapes have a few and the technical issues didn’t help.
