In this track the only effects you can hear is a voltage control filter, the rest is pure genius!!!! "Shut up and play yer guitar "is a mind blowing album!!!You could do it all and be surprised at every guitar solo! Thank you for this great reaction!!!!
In case you don't know this is an element excised from Zoot Allures. (Compare the versions of Zoot on the albums FZ-OZ and Frank Zappa Plays...). To hear this performance in context, refer to the famous bootleg The Eyes Of Osaka (which also contains an unedited version of the standard-issue Black Napkins).
I'm not sure about this... but I THINK that Zappa is , in fact playing Jimi Hendrix's guitar on this track. If you listen carefully, you can hear the whammy bar a couple of different times, so it's definitely a Strat, and on this tour, he had the Hendrix Strat as one of his guitars. But I have no proof that this is that guitar, still think it is. As far as the effect is concerned , Zappa says... "It's an Oberheim voltage-controlled filter triggered by a sample/hold unit. It sets up a kind of rhythm that makes an accompaniment for you." He doesn't say it here... but he's also using a Morley Wah Wah.
