Last place my father was stationed 74-75. We lived across street from bowling alley . After our weekly trip to bowling alley from elementary school #1 I would go straight home. Year round indoor swimming trips weekly bowling you name it All within walking distance of school. Good times 12 years old loving the army brat life!

Thanks for posting this video. I found it very interesting. I worked for Army Audit Agency and was in Frankfurt from 1976 to 1979. As an auditor I was on the road 30 out of the 36 months I was there, but my wife worked as a budget analyst at HQ V Corps in the Abrams building. At that time we lived in a high rise apartment at 69 Inheidenerstrasse. I've seen on Google Earth that our old apartment building is still there and in use. I think about our time in Germany quite alot and would love to visit again just to see how things have changed. I suppose I wouldn't recognize it now.

I was in Frankfurt from August 1992 until they started closing it down in 1994. My memories are a bit hazy and I appreciate your videos. Frankfurt was a great place to live, work, and serve.

Otis, I love your videos, please keep them coming. I lived in the Frankfurt area (Camp King) from 1977-1980, I attended FAHS from 77-78 and then I worked at the PX. I have great memories of my years there so I greatly appreciate the in depth footage that you shoot. Thank you sir!!

I was lucky enough to spend a large part of my military career in Europe and the majority of that in Frankfurt starting with Gutleout Kaserne down by the Bahnhof first then I was reassigned to a special unit operating out of what was then The I.G. Farben (later Abrams Building). Then it was off to Gibbs Kaserne, then the Logistics Support Activity Rodelheim and later the Transportation Motor Pool 1 near the military hospital. All total 13 years. Wouldn't recognize anything now except the I.G Farben Bilding (used to love those constantly moving elevators) and the building that housed the officers club behind it. Looks as though they moved all the stress tracks underground. Too bad. Thanks for the memories

Thanks for posting this - I lived on Kennedy for a while in the mid 80's before I moved on the economy in an apartment in Praunheim - I actually worked in the 601ASOC when they moved from Rose Airfield to LSAR. That was a new building when we moved in and it's been torn down, too. Great to see all of the old haunting grounds, sad to see them all demolished. I need to head back over for a week or so to check out all of the old places (I had three assignments in Germany so it'll take a lot of driving to see 'em all) - my current wife an I were there a few years ago but she was getting tired of the "Bill Nostalgia Tour" so we cut it short and headed down to Austria for a few days... Have to get back before I get too old to remember all of the places. Thanks again. PS - that Kursana apartment building where Kennedy was is actually a senior living facility. Wonder if they'd take me? LOL!!

I actually went to school at FAHS and graduated in 88. Visited a couple times in the mid 90's. In this video I can only recognize a couple buildings, and all the street names I knew so well. It's amazing how much change can occur in a couple decades. It's also amazing how many memories popped up just from hearing those street names. Stuff I hadn't thought about for a looong time.

I was Company Clerk for the 66th Aviation Company in Gibbs Kaserne from 1966 to 1969. Our airfield was Bonames Airfield out in the town of Bonames. Battalion HQ was in Hanau. Would be great to hear from anyone who might have been there at that time. Thanks for this posting. Look forward to more.

Was stationed at McNair Kaserne in Höchst outside of Frankfurt from 1986 to 1988. All these street names and train stops bring back memories. Use to go to the PX and Abrams area all the time. To Bowling Alley and Theater too. Nice video, brings back great memories.

I was an MP in Frankfurt from 1986 - 1989. My barracks were across the street from the Abrams Bldg near where A66 ended into the city street that led to the PX Compound. This all looks totally unfamiliar to me now.

My father was stationed in Frankfurt from 1955-1958 my father, mother and myself lived at 2239 A-1 Plattenstrasse. I played little league baseball on the fields the gentleman was talking about. I was 9-10-11 years old and played on the baseball team called the 59ers I played shortstop. Great memories. I went to the grade school there that was talked about. The housing looks exactly the same. No trees were there in my time. So sorry to say nothing looks familiar. Kind of ruined my memories of Frankfurt. Oh well, time goes on.

I lived on the corner of Joachim Becher and Jakob-Leisler from 1982-85. We loved it there. Our street Joachim Becher dead ended into the autobahn. My sister would walk across that bridge that went across the autobahn to get to her high school. I also remember walking that same way to go to the movie theater. It was past the high school but can't recall exactly where. Also I went to the elementary school down Platen Strasse. We played baseball in the baseball fields that were right next to the school which look like they are gone now. We had many friends that lived in the Platen complex. In the 80's when we were there the Platen complex buildings were all white and our buildings were all brown. Platen was military housing and our complex was civilian housing. I seem to recall people calling our complex Hicog. I also remember the bowling alley. In 6th grade I guess which would be 1983-1984 our class would go bowling once a week. We would walk from the elementary school. My teacher was Mr. Mosseso. The 6th grade teacher next door was Ms. Gruener but later married and became Mrs. Guthrie. If anyone remembers this then we must know each other or at least of each other. Let me know. I think the px area was nowhere near the bowling alley though. We would walk there but maybe it was a mile away or so. The px area had a commissary, arcade, record store, gas station and a cafeteria. I recall the cafeteria being directly in the corner. There were probably other stores there that I can't remember. I also was in the 7th grade our last year there but I can't recall where the junior high was. It was past the px but just can't remember. I do remember the roller rink was close to our junior high I think. I won the video game contest they had there one night. I think the contest was for the game Galaga, Gyruss, and it could have been Centipede. I killed it at Gyruss and nobody could touch me. Had to be 84 or 85. Thanks for the memories!! Brings back such good times. Love it!!!

"HICOG" was an abbreviation for "High Commissioner of Germany". I went to Frankfurt High School '55-'57 and we lived in an apartment in Platenstrasse. We were the first occupants as the complex had just been built. Lots of memories of The PX and Snack Bar at WAC Circle. I really enjoyed Germany.

The Frankfurt American High School closed in June of 1995. So this probably means that the Abrams Building complex discontinued operations by 1997-98. This goes for CPO's employment services, and the Frankfurt PX compound too. As for Kennedy Kaserne, where there were many barracks for US soldiers, we think this small base closed down in the early-to-mid-1990's.

Just wondering if you by any chance ever heard of the 28th base post office that was in Frankfurt in the late 60-early 70. I was stationed there in 1970-71-72, and just curious as to if it was still there. And if not what is at that location now, doubt that it still exist. My son was born at the 97th general and i seen where that is no longer there. I loved it in Germany and would love to revisit 1 day.

This was nostalgic for a reason different from the others. We were there from 1989 -- three months before The Wall came down -- until 1991, as civilians. My company, MITRE, had a small office working for the German equivalent of our Federal Aviation Agency, the Bundesanstalt fuer Flugsicherung. We lived on the economy, at Oberlindau 61, a few blocks from Abrams, where my wife, an English and Reading specialist, taught various courses to soldiers for several U.S. colleges. She also taught at Edwards and Hoechst, providing us with PX privileges. We enjoyed our stay and would like to have stayed longer, but her leave of absence was only for two years. I've written extensively about our experiences at www.jludwick.com/Frankfurt.html. Drop me a note (jludwick@ieee.org) if any of them strike a chord. We've been back several times, although not recently, so I was interested in learning about what happened to what we knew as "The Shopping Center." During one of those visits, www.jludwick.com/Notes/Austria/Austria_1.html, we had heard that it was going to provide many housing units, but I guess the police have priority!
