The Jersey boys (SHERRY, BIG GIRLS DON'T CRY, WALK LIKE A MAN, RAG DOLL)were one of the greatest groups to come out of an era that gave us the Beach Boys and the Beatles. This song made the Tremeloes super-stars.
One of the greatest B sides ever, This live version is awesome, Frankie and a super backing band, it does'nt get any better than this.Frankie, you're the man!!.
When I finally turned Rag Doll over and found this, I thought Marlena /Candy Girl or Hound Dog/Don't be Cruel Rag Doll was such a monster though song of the summer 64 not many listened to this super sad But Rag Doll Dawn Ronnie Save It For Me what a 64 the Seasons had!!! .
I’m truly in awe 🫢 of The Four Seasons. I think this group in particular is the watershed moment. The key board man is such a cute fella. I’m so sorry he passed away. Toooooooooo young…
Oh, don't it hurt deep inside To see someone do something' to her? Oh, don't it pain to see someone cry? Oh especially when someone is her Silence is golden, But my eyes' still see Silence is golden, golden But my eyes' still see But my eyes still see A talkin' is cheap, people follow like sheep Even though there is nowhere to go How could she tell he deceived her so well Pity she'll be the last one to know Silence is golden, But my eyes' still see Silence is golden, golden But my eyes still see How many times did she fall for his line? Should I tell her or should I keep cool? And if I tried I know she'll say I lied Mind your business, don't hurt her, you fool Silence is golden, But my eyes' still see Silence is golden, golden But my eyes still see But my eyes' still see But my eyes' still see
Every live version of the 4 or 5 different live arrangements they've done through the years, ends a touch different, but I agree with you that this finish stands above all the others.
Great Song by A Great Singer Excellent Version. Great Harmonies backing Mr Frankie Valli who is The Greatest Singer I ever heard. Great Guitar by Larry Lingle song should have been A Double #1 In 1964 w Rag Doll
He is the greatest!!! I went to see him perform live at Shea's theater in Buffalo, what a performer! His love for music shows when he is on stage, he sounds better at age 79!!!!!!
@@musicisinmysoul I agree Russ his performance is awesome, he still draws a large crowd at age 86!! In my opinion they don't make entertainers that perform live like Frankie Valli anymore !! (Sad)
I like the modern rendering, in my maturity. Flip side of Rag Doll? That was the one I liked, that big hit. But this is a deep concept, silence is golden. The great adepts speak to it. I like the riffs.
The April 2013 stuff he did with a new group of Seasons, Frankie still has it in a big way. He is scheduled for Aug. 17. 2013 in Lincoln, CA (near Sacramento) in a postponed June 1 concert in which the 79 year old icon wasn't feeling well and pulled the plug like 72 hours prior.
Why didn't the 4 Seasons record their own version? They DID! It was on their first Phillips album, "Born to Wander" and was the B side of Rag Doll. That's where the Tremeloes heard it. This version here outshines all other versions!
After listening to their original recording of this song, I'm glad they decided to speed up the tempo, taking a tip from The Tremelos (their version was the bigger hit at the time it was released). I personally prefer the Tremelos release, but I do like this one, especially the harmonica. ;)
I like that one too. I was fortunate to see Frankie and the Four Seasons at a nightclub back around 1975. The keyboard player was sort of the spokesman for the group. He poked fun at the Tremolos version as it was note for note the same version the Four Seasons had originally done.

Pretty powerful performance, and though for this fan no later crew of Seasons will ever top the "cool factor" that diminished after the original 5 (the late beloved Joe Long being fifth, although Charlie Calello is an unsung hero), Frankie looks great here and the band ace!
Silence is Golden is one of those rare songs that just lends itself to live performance. Not that the Studio Session isn't great, the live performance expresses more emotion from all the performers, especially Frankie's lead voice.
Tremeloes was all I knew of this song. Small world back then. Good version of this anyway... don't know what that melodica sounding device is called. Probably works like one of those current day tubes can't recall the name of that either. function of being 65 I guess...
When I first heard Tremoloes version I thought It was the 4 seasons. Its sounds similar because Bob Gaudio and Crew wrote it and it had their influence
I believe it's a type of Vocoder. He actually plays the notes on the keyboard, but the Vocoder let's him have more control, allowing him to slur notes and give the impression of an electric piccolo.
The Tremeloes cover was a note for note copy of the 4 Seasons original. They increased the tempo a bit, but that's about the only difference. This arrangement is either the 4th or 5th version Valli's used for a live performance. Bob Crewe and Bob Guadio collaborated to write the song.
Keyboards Tim Stone Keyboards Robbie Robinson (one with the pony tail) Bass Rex Robinson Drums Chuck Wilson Guitar Larry Lingle The full concert is on here somewhere. Well worth a listen.
