Heading to Nashville and looking for a good day trip? Well Franklin, TN is a great day trip from Nashville. A cute town with antiques, galleries, and fantastic food, Franklin gives you a very different feeling than Nashville. So here are the do's and don'ts of visiting Franklin, Tennessee.

I was in Nashville and Franklin a few short weeks ago and yes, Mark is spot on. Franklin is one of the most quaint small towns in the whole U . S. There is so much culture and small town charm here that this town will take you back to a simpler time. Historically speaking, I would highly recommend that tourists visit the antebellum Carter House just down the road. The house has plenty of original bullet holes from the Civil War.

@@gojl5567 Yes, I have taken plenty of historical tours throughout my life and the tour guide at the Carter House was absolutely phenomenal. He answered every question I had plus other questions that I had not even thought of.

I’ve lived in both Franklin and Nashville for the past 4 years and this video is spot on. Funny that you mentioned Dolly because I live around 15 minutes away from her Brentwood mansion on Crockett Road. I had no clue that the place was hers until a driver from the mechanic shop that worked on my car pointed it out to me one day. As crazy as the housing prices are here now thanks to so many CA and northern folks moving here in droves, all you have to do is look around and explore to see why this area is so desirable in the first place.

Also Castle Recording Studio is in Franklin. It was originally a summer home for AL Capone. It's a Recording studio and is also used for weddings.

So true. We bought a house here 17 years ago and it was a stretch then. If we sold our house now, there's no way we could afford to buy another one in Franklin! Prices have tripled and quadrupled. It's bonkers.

I loved visiting the Lotz family home. I was fortunate to visit on the day of a civil war re-enactment of the battle of Franklin complete with a general Grant lookalike. Loved it.

For hotels stay in Cool Springs right across the Interstate from Franklin. Also Brentwood has hotels as well along the Interstate. I like the Berry Farm Area😁.

It's so weird to see the town where I grew up on this channel!! Nashville has epically failed when it comes to building any kind of decent public transit so it's about as walkable and well planned as a tiny Houston. That's a big part of why the suburban counties have been the primary drivers of growth over the past few decades and also why Nashville will never be the city it could've been instead of an overpriced traffic nightmare that pushes people further and further away. If you live in the region you will get used to the rather ridiculous "It City" moniker and hear plenty of talk of not wanting to be the "next Atlanta." But don't worry, Nashville has already blown its opportunity to be even half as big and important as Atlanta.

We bought a house in Westhaven last year just a few miles up the road towards Leipers Fork.. Zero regrets and we 💕 LOVE, LOVE Franklin and it's southern charm! Forget all the negative talk about CA, NJ and IL folks "moving in droves." Yes they are moving here, but most of them are running away from the crazy politics from where they came. So not all is lost and not all are "those" people, so be kind to them like a good southerner! So far, everyone has been awesome! Very polite, friendly and generally just grateful to be here. Franklin IS a rare gem straight out of a Hallmark movie. And yes it's made many homeowners real estate millionaires. But that can also change as we are seeing now. Basically don't come here with the goal to change it, just embrace the amazing way it is already and you will be just fine. We will never leave! Great video...👍

You are mistaken about what folks move to Franklin and Williamson County from other places. They come to escape crowding, high taxes, and cold climates. In my experience, many do NOT like Tennessee politics. Some of them are insufferably rude, but certainly no more than a small number.

I remember Amy Grant talking about her farm out in the country of Franklin, TN. I think everyone has found it now. I know a lot of CCM artists live around there. When we were there, I kept looking around to see if there was someone I had their album.

I lived in Brentwood for a decade and taught the second half of my career in the excellent WIlliamson County. schools. My position took me all over the county, including Franklin and Leiper’s a few times. WillCo is an amazing area. There’s so much more to see in the County. Nolensville in the northeastern corner is growing very rapidly. It boasts some quaint stores like Franklin. Although bigger than Leiper’s, it is much smaller than Franklin. From there, drive south on Nolensville Road to Arrington, where the beautiful Arrington Vineyards offer beautiful views, wine tastings, and lots of events. Every corner of Williamson County has something to over. I retired and moved out of state, but I still miss my hometown (Nashville) and Williamson County.

Awesome! We have not been there, but looks great. We love Tennessee and usually go to Sevierville/Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area - have you done a video on that area? Dollywood and the Smoky Mountains - you can't go wrong :)

@@woltersworld How good do you rank that area? I live in Tennessee but I lived in Florida for nine months. I have to say this. Dollywood has better roller coasters than either Disney World or Universal Studios. In fact Disney World only had one roller coaster that goes upside down. Disney World and Universal Studios just have a lot more shows than Dollywood but you can watch plenty of great shows in Pigeon Forge which is in the same city as Dollywood plus all of the great restaurants, hotels and cabins. The scene is much more beautiful too. That's my opinion. What do you think?

I always enjoy your videos on Nashville. I have lived in Franklin for over 10 years, and I think everything you said was well put. I think people should visit Pinkerton park. It is right before you get to downtown Franklin, and it has some historic stuff in it plus just an overall nice park. Normally, (Prior to COVID) there would always be festivals in downtown Franklin during a weekend in October (the pumpkin fest), December (Charles Dickson's festival), and May. In April (Prior to COVID), there is always a huge fine arts festival that takes place in the factory, and it is open to the public. I am involved in choir and orchestra, and you can hear some great schools and some professionals perform all sorts of music from singing to bands to skits from plays and visual arts all for free. I would definitely look into those things because they are all free and nice ways to explore local talent and artistry in the area.

Lived in Nashville / Franklin area my entire life. One of the most important distinctions between the two cities is the crime rate. Franklin is VERY safe. Crime in Nashville has gotten out of control. Smart move to set up base camp in Franklin and just visit Nashville.

Dolly Parton doesn't live in Leipers Fork. She lives in Brentwood which isn't horribly far from Franklin. While you're in Leipers Fork go find Natchez Trace State Park. It's a State scenic road that starts in Leipers Fork area to Natchez Mississippi. They have a lot of cool hiking areas. It's an absolutely gorgeous drive in Spring and Fall.

Unfortunately the nationally known bridge on the Trace (in a Toyota commercial), is undergoing construction to deter “jumpers”.

@@davidturk6170 there's a hell alot more to the Trace than this 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️. There's tons of hiking trails along the way. Also there's a lot of biking trails. It's sad this is the only thing you think of.

@@jessicaely2521 - having driven the trace many a time, it’s definitely not the only thing I think of. It was a heads up to the construction that’s going to begin shortly (causing minor delays). I’ll be driving it again on my way to/from the Lovelace Cafe. That’s when we’re not stopping at Country Boy (even though they’ve been acquired by BBB). You have a good day. Maybe I’ll see you on the Trace.

Thank you for the tip. We are flying in from Boston to be on Dave Ramsay in a few weeks and we were trying to figure out if we should stay in Nashville and drive in to Franklin for the show or Franklin. We’d prefer to use ride share and rent E/bikes instead of renting a car. Any thoughts?

I live about two minutes from historical downtown Franklin. Honestly this place feels like a big city to me 😅. I'm from a small town of only 2,000 people.

I was born and raised in Franklin and I think you're advice is pretty good. I never had as many problems with crowding but I graduated high school in 2019 so it may have changed since. You should cover Knoxville next! I'm a student at utk and I think it's a nice city

Franklin is full! It’s a nice place to visit, but if you’re moving to TN, try Wilson County or Rutherford County instead!

This is so true. Not about the 5 houses apiece, but the gentrification. I know people who were born and raised in Hard Bargain, still own the home opposite the one they were born in, who say they get people knocking on their doors all the time offering to buy their house. As insight into what the older residents in Franklin have experienced in their lifetime, when one lady suggested calling in the news to highlight the irritation of having people knock on their doors all the time, the older residents refused, afraid they would be lynched. Yikes. They have lived through tough, tough times.

I skipped Franklin and went to Memphis after someone told be Franklin is where all the Californians move to. Not sure that is accurate but that is what the Uber driver told me so I ended up renting a car and going to Memphis instead. I wished I would have at least checked it out.....next time.

Most over-rated city is more on point. Whenever friends or family visit me ( I live in Franklin), they always want to visit Downtown Franklin (at least on their first visit out here). When we do, their reaction is always the same: "meh." Now, I get that compared to other smaller towns in middle TN, Franklin does offer some higher end stores and better places to eat. But the smallish downtown is surrounded by sprawling non descript subdivisions that could easily make you feel like you are in Irvine, California or any other bedroom community anywhere in the US. Franklin.....to lean into that over-used phrase, "There is no there, there." On a positive note, I will say downtown Franklin is very dog friendly, and most of the shops keep treat bowls ready, and the retail clerks are very nice and welcoming.

Don’t talk about politics here; the locals are fed up with that. Ask locals for good restaurants. It is really hard to find them here. It’s stupid expensive and not many places to bike. Beautiful area none the less.

Nothing spot on about his assessment of Franklin other than being over run. His “donts “ hahaha. He failed to mention several thing’s within Franklin even Williamson county. He knows about nothing about so many things about Franklin, or what’s around Franklin(not Nashville or cool springs) I would be more inclined to hear somebody speak on of what they actually knew. I apologize to all who watch this video… This is not an accurate video.

@@NTEDOG561 Because they probably live there and are trying to discourage the tourists. Franklin is a very nice town with a TON of Civil War history. The locals are concerned about all of the people from CA moving in and trying to change it
