I live in Florida and we installed three FranklinWH batteries on our 4600 sq ft home. We are a family of five and run all of our major appliances throughout the day. It is 80+ degrees here in the Tampa metro area and despite using all of our major appliances we haven’t used the grid in weeks. A few weeks ago, our area lost power for a few hours (which is normal for Florida) and our batteries immediately switched on. We didn’t notice there was a power outage until our neighbors sent us a text message. These batteries are awesome.

I love my Franklin batteries. Have not used grid power in 3 weeks since my system was turned on. Surprisingly last week 61% of my power came from my Franklin with no grid use. Fantastic!!

I have 2x Franklin batteries and my installer "gave' me a SPAN panel with it, and I hadn't really understood why I would want the SPAN panel. I actually really like it, and I am VERY VERY GRATEFUL I do not have to rely on Texas' notoriously unreliable grid to keep my HVAC running during weather extremes.

May I ask who was your installer was? I am in Texas and very interested in getting Franklin batteries installed.

I have had this system with two batteries for about a year now. They seem to work well. The battery specs are somewhat "aspirational," however, in terms of usable kWh and roundtrip cycle efficiency. (The actual I got out of a battery was about 83% of the 13.6 kWh nominal, or 11.2 kWh, and the round trip efficiency was about 74-76% when I tested last year (compared to the 89% spec). Apparently also the internally consumed energy "tax" of a couple hundred watts for running the controller is ignored in the published spec.) The app has a lot of small to medium issues. Sometimes it "lies" (and I'm not talking about the "noise" of a few hundred watts being shown going "the wrong way" sometimes). For example, for Home (energy usage), it often shows about double or triple day totals compared to what the utility meter shows in aggregate. (It contradicts even Franklin's own downloaded data, which agrees with the utility.) Also, what I don't like is not being able to limit the charging power (5 kW per battery), as well as the max level to charge to a level below that 100% level that's hard-baked into the controller (at least when not in emergency "storm hedge" mode), both in order to reduce long-term wear of the battery. Furthermore, no easy way to confirm if guaranteed capacity still in spec as the years go by towards the 12y warranty limit. The "battery health" data is visible to Franklin only, a potential conflict of interest IMO. (The lifetime throughput limit of 43 MWh should not trigger in normal cases.) BTW, that "

I don’t know if you bought the genuine version directly.😂Check again where you get it brother. I have none of one of them.

No mention of the Fuel Cell pictured in the background. Is it an offering, and how would it fit into the system?

Great question Kenneth. FranklinWH was designed to work with a lot of different power sources, not just solar. With 1.5trillion in innovation slated to the market over the next decade, we work with many different technologies to create a seamless electrification experience. If it’s 120v/208v/240v, FWH will find a way to support it. A fuel cell generator would work like a regular generator connection to our system. Powering the home when Solar can’t and is needed as well as keeping the batteries at a charge where homeowner can feel comfortable with their energy use.

I want to see Franklin or Enphase develop a real time rate set up that can read current grid prices and allow pushback to the grid at peak prices. Probably dreaming for a bit on that one.

I've been telling all these companies to implement that every chance I get. Price based load control is the future.

I completely agree with you! I don't think it will be a major challenge for them. Let's wait and see when it happens.

Is that 5kw charging comes from solar only , or doesn't care from where it's pulling that energy? Also, I have found a warranty for 70% retention worse than other manufacturers. It's 12 years or 43mwh, whichever comes first. 43 mwh for 13.4 kwh it's 3200 cycles.

Thinking about adding this to an existing 10kw Solar install on my house out here in the midwest. While I have netmetering and generally reliable power, I love the idea of complete independence from the grid when it goes down. If my solar panels are snow covered, can I charge the battery from the grid? I generally overproduce for the year. (and have for the last 5 years).
@SolarSurge

Yes, this battery can be charged from solar, the grid, or an external generator.

Is the Franklin ecosystem compatible with any solar system provider such as SunPower?
@WindWhizzer

Exactly, as a frankie fan, I know that it is ac coupled, so its mean it is compatible with any solar inverter. You can ask them directly in their web.

If I didn’t have power after a hurricane, I’d be hesitant to drain my electric vehicle battery of power to supply my house.
@justinfranklinwh4969
@justinfranklinwh4969 8 месяцев назад
Absolutely. One of the interesting things is many EVs allow a small amount of the battery to be allotted for discharge. Ford and Chevy allotted around 9.4kwh even though the battery itself is 75kwh+ This is a small boost to get you through the night until the sun is shining and recharging the home and system. Completely agree, I would be terrified of not being able to leave a natural disaster.
