I remember we had a school assignment back in the day, to try and replicate great piece of art in other medium than in was originally greated. I used pastel chalks, and replicated Fraz Marc's the Large Blue Horses. I didn't know a thing about him, I just found a picture of the painting in one of the resources we had, and could not stop looking at it, so from all the options, I chose it. It was so simple, but somehow I was just totally mesmerized by it, and I still can't quite tell why. It jjust simply is.

due to a series of volcanic eruptions in the period 1883 - 1920, the late 1800s and the early 1900s had fire-red sunrises and sunsets only rarely were the skies deep blue at dawn or just after sunset, and just in this period, many painters had a fascination with the color blue when the fire-red skies at sunrise and sunset slowly dissipated after the 1920s so also slowly did the fascination with the color blue disappear in painters circles. also, many of the sunrises/sunsets painted at the time were fire-red but that goes without saying.
