Fraps Tutorial and Tips 

First, I LIKE THIS VIDEO. Second, I'm not going to read all the comments that were already posted (there's a lot), so maybe I'm stepping on toes or re-stating the already stated. This video is informative, professional, well spoken and well illustrated. The narrator sounds young, but this is first rate. My only criticism is that it could have been more comprehensive. He could have mentioned that lowering FPS, resolution, and recording to a Ram-disk could all help improve the output FPS.

Yes it does. The clip you recorded will be automatically saved in a Fraps folder in your Videos or Documents folder.

Wow you did Fraps a great service with this video, I didnt know that I could only record 30 secs on the free ver. so I was kind of going crazy when most of my videos....were rather small.... I also didnt know that the red fps tells you that your recording, this vid helped ALOT! thanks for the vid

For all you people asking how to start recording with fraps the button is F9 , the frame rate counter on the right hand side of ur screen should go red when recording.

Also, if you do decide to record with Fraps, like GearDown mentions i highly recommend recording the videos to an unused secondary Harddrive or even to an external Harddrive as the file sizes are huge. I have a 2TB external HDD and one of my hour long recordings managed to reach more than 100GB of data (it was split into multiple parts).

Well if you go to the Fraps website it gives you a download tab, which is the fraps trail, and then the buy/purchase tab, which unlocks the full version of fraps. The 30 second trial is so that you can test out their software to see if it works for you

you have to enter the game and once you do press F9 or your hotkey that you set up. once you do that the yellow numbers in the corner will turn red, that means its recording

When I first saw this video on my subscriptions, I thought that there isn't gonna be anything new to me... But after watching I learned a few new stuff! like that No Sync thingy! Thank!:D

Yes. The video output is not compressed yet. Use a program like Windows Movie Makes and save the file as a WMV and it will compress it. Also recording on "half size" will help keep file size down.

Fraps only records on the outgoing channel, that means it will record the sounds that come out of your speakers. Unfortunatly it won't record ingoing audio e.g. your microphone. NBG

@Jonnyh2001 First you have to have full version of Fraps, when you do go to FPS and uncheck "Stop benchmark after [number] seconds." at the bottom

Your videos should be in a folder in your Documents or Your videos folders. If not, start fraps and check which directory you selected.

Thank you for the LowDown. Knew most of the basics already, but just wanted to see what you can give. My problem is usually with the resources at my disposal. 4Gig ram with a core2 duo...not enough. Need an upgrade!!!

You could record it separately in Audacity and stitch it together in the video editing software you use.

@phoenix9610 it's because you use the free\trial version of fraps (30 sec limit)

If you guys wanna download a screen recorder that works great and the free version records for 10 minutes download bandicam you just have to adjust the fps in the recording options so your games don't lag. Hope it helped :)

This is an older version of Fraps, they have changed the User Interface dramaticly (it looks abit nicer now) and there are alot more options. Handy video though.

@usaf31 You have to use a video editing software. I would suggest Virtual Dub because it's free. You have to use the append option in it to tag the videos on to each other.

If you wanna record all activities on your computer, Apowersoft free online screen recorder might work. Moreover, it is capable of capturing video with audio simultaneously, so you can make tutorials.

You have to buy the full version ($25) to record fully, you only have the trial/demo version

you need the full version thats why it does that

Under your 99FPS tab, there is an overlay hotkey, check the box with "hide overlay", that should remove it

@EnnTomi1 If you watch the video - FFW to about 8:12 - he explains that video size is limited to 3.9 GB.

Did you pay attention Trial version only last 30 sec but you can record it again once it turns back to yellow

i want to try your tip on saving aircraft in another file. can you explain a bit more how to do this and where to save them?

when u see numbers that are yellow u can record. so when u see them red that means it started recording

Use the free open source program "Virtual Dub" and it will compress the FRAPS video to the quality settings you specify.

See now you say, "..when you stitch the 2 together, the result is seemless." yet by the end of most of my videos, the audio video sync is horrible. How do I fix this?

i found that if you record in window game mode then fullscreen you can get a slight increase in fps ,

check if your recording button is set to F11. If it ism then change it to something else, like >

Your voice is amazing.

It should have FPS numbers in a corner, and they would go red, but..when people watch your video's, everyone will see the FPS, so you turn the FPS off so you can't see it, and you'll just have to guess if it is recording :D

thanks for the information! i always save my video files in my C: drive.. but i have 2 drives one the is C: drive and the other is a D: drive..i still have 100GB on my D: drive so i'll check it out later..thanks

@animefreakc94 yes , download "format factory" , install it and convert the file (AVI) to MP4 (3X smaller without quality loss)

you can make it not lag as much by not recording sound, recording half size, and only record at 30 or 50 fps

I bought the full version but when i record like a 10 min video it splits it into 10 clips :( help!

Thanks, excellent video but I still have a question : Can I remove the data that shows up on the top of the screen while I record ? M not talking about the two numbers that you remove with F12, but about those that shows up only when you record, FPS and ms and other, all written in white

@don2xify same thing happened to me. except i recorded 3 hours of material and it decided to split them up into 30 second segments....

fraps is good but lags on my computer i now use Screen Recording Suite you can google it and have a try.

plz answer my question: when i recording i need to push the key F9 and it's will be a new clip how to set them together?so it's will be like a movie.

i have the full version. i was recording somthing then when i went to review it it was broken down into 3 diff. 8min video. how can i fix that so its one video?

Is there any way to boost the microphone volume while recording? I could practically yell into it and get great quality on skype or steam chat, but on fraps it turns out terrible, nothing but mumbles. Any way to fix that?

Hey, how exactly is do I "launch" Fraps and get it to start recording a game? The hotkeys aren't responding when being pressed and the folders are always empty. I'm using version 3.4.6

yeah but how much i can record with fraps because main stops after 3-4 minutes and i have 300 g free on disk space
