The Toronto Blue Jays drop a tough game against the Baltimore Orioles, getting walked off by Adley Rutchsman. With the blown save by Jordan Romano, many people are calling for his head, saying that he is not a legitimate closer and that the Toronto Blue Jays should look elsewhere for a more reliable closing pitcher. We break down whether there is validity to these statements, breaking down his 2024 stats, as well as comparing him and his stats to one of the best closing pitchers in the game, Josh Hader. Is the Jordan Romano hate deserved? We break down the big moments from game two of this series, from the Bo Bichette RBI double, to Daulton Varsho’s obstruction call, to Yimi Garcia’s dominant performance out of the bullpen. We also get into a debate about how the umpires have been so far this season, and how pitch framing has affected their calls. We get into all this and more on this episode of Locked On Blue Jays

Romano was in the top 5 for saves the last 2 seasons. He isn't in the top 10 this season for two reasons. One he wasn't available the first couple of weeks and two the jays haven't had the lead late in games to give him the chance for a save.

I definitely do not think Romano is a fraud. He is the best Canadian Pitcher the Jays have maybe ever had, which is nice for all the hometown fans. I do think if you can get a big return on him from the O''s who have really good prospects, I think 4 in the MLB top 100 it would be a solid move. I think with Garcia pitching the way he is and Greene coming back shortly, I do think if were looking to sell at the deadline it would be a good chip to move, as sad as it would be to see him go. I would like to see him go to an immediate World Series Favorite.

Your being too nice... Jays are absolutely terrible and should be sellers at the deadline. No closer, can't hit with RISP... they have some good starters but must suck to go out and throw a great game only to get no run support or have Romano give up yet another monster tater and blow the game in the 9th. Plus, they have a manager and ownership that pulled one of their aces in the wild card series last year when he was throwing an awesome game due to "playing the odds" cause what the Excel sheet on their laptops must of told them - Seriously, they suck and need overhauling. PS: I love the Orioles too and this goes without saying but I pray the O's never trade for Romano!

He's not a good closer if you are biting your nails every time he comes into the game. I didn't worry when Tom Henke came into the game. You just knew it was lights out.
@kayakerdude3727
@kayakerdude3727 17 дней назад
That was a good closer - He tailed off I remember and had lost some of that velocity by the early 90s (closers have a short shelf life) but he was lights out in the mid to late 1980s. Duane Ward in the late 80s and early 90s was basically unhittable and had the kind of insane velocity and movement on his pitches Henke enjoyed in the mid 80s years - Can't hit what you can't see... Nolan Ryan basically pitched like this for entire games - Do I ever miss those years and players.

Every time Romano comes in he puts a runner on and gives up a homer. He needs a three run cushion to get a save every time. I hope the rumours of him being on the trading block are true.

@@LockedOnBlueJays the stats are a crock. I sit here and I watch the games and I know what I see and every time that guy comes in with less than a three run lead he loses well, not every time but a lot more than the stats are showing. I know because every time he comes in with less than a three run lead I put money on them losing and I win most of the time.

why keep saying you dont have stats??? Cavan is .057 over his past 15 games or so. Turner has cooled off. George is .111 with risp. Try Lukes or Horowitz. We have no power and stringing hits when you dont even play small ball ( se KK double stranded)

Kikuchi gave a leadoff homerun. No pitcher is perfect. Romano won the game on Monday playing 2 innings, and stranding the ghost runner. He has been in the saves leaderboard the past 2 srasons. If IKF fields the ball, that homerun ties the game, and who knows what happens. Maybe if they actually scored some runs. Let's not blame pitchers, when this team is averaging 3.6 runs per game.

Vlad missed that catch and yall eviscerated him. I've seen Varsho and Schneider make rookie mistakes on balls they missed and get a pass. So miss me with the Romano compassion. I doubt Yankee fans worried about Rivera. Romano is good, let's hold off on great.
@LockedOnBlueJays
@LockedOnBlueJays Месяц назад
We went at Vladdy for that play because it was a ball in the air he just whiffed on. I’ll give you the Schneider one he’s missed a few balls badly this year and we haven’t given him a hard time. For Varsho, he’s the best defender in the league and doesn’t have an error so not sure what you’re referring to there. We can only hope Romano will give us the confidence that Rivera had from Yankees fans, but you’re right, definitely can’t compare Romano to Rivera
@kayakerdude3727

He sucks and rarely fools big league hitters - I said so after watching him blow a lead against (at the time) a Baltimore Oriole club with a losing record at the end of the 2022 season where he put them on base then gave up a monster tater. All the homies got on my back when I said he's not a legit fire throwing closer with a lot of pitches (plus leaves them up and belt high) like the ones teams such as said Baltimore have when they brought out Bautista to blow away the Jays on strikes in the bottom of the ninth. Been watching, playing and a fan of this game for 43 years now and I hate telling Toronto homies wearing rose colored glasses for their home boy and team that I told them so but I told them so.

And whose fault is that? In my opinion it’s all Atkins who has done nothing to improve this team’s hitting performance over the last year! I have been asking for him to be fired since last August. They won’t listen to me , this will continue! At this point it’s almost impossible even to get a wild card position. Why is he still there?

@leam89
@leam89 Месяц назад
@@tonygatto2044 I'm not sure I agree about that. We could only speculate how much they want to win. I think Atkins made a lot of great moves and some bad ones. At the end of the day the product on the field isn't good enough and someone has to be responsible. But with that being said, if the first three hitters were hitting consistently then they wouldn't be losing nearly as much. They did need one more big bat in the off season and Atkins failed to do that. They need changes as this is just more of last season. Doubling down on pitching and fielding was a mistake. It's also just boring to watch.
@tonygatto2044
@tonygatto2044 Месяц назад
I am sorry but I do not agree with you regarding Atkins . Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn! Let’s talk about his efforts over the last year and half ! There are so many things I can say but I am not wasting my breath . I have been watching baseball over 40 years have seen the good , bad and ugly. Why this organization can’t pull the trigger and hire a Gm who understands baseball is beyond me . Have not watched this team on a regular basis since last August when they DFA’d Dejong.. and that embarrassing series against Texas in September was the last straw . This team will not win anything as long as the current management team remains in place!
