The Frauenburg was built in the 13th century, perhaps on the remains of even older remains. It served the Counts of Sponheim to secure the Nahe crossing and their remote possessions.
Little is known about the further history of the castle. It must have served as a refuge for the population again and again in difficult times, especially during the Thirty Years' War.
A total of 1.4 million euros was invested in planning, reports, materials and execution work . In return, the historic building structure will now be protected for the long term.
The castle is now illuminated in the evening. Access to the towers is not possible for security reasons.
