Sir diffraction of light occur when light hit the ends of the slit then why here every light bends at an angle theeta even they are passing between the slits,not hitting the slits
@SSPhysics
@SSPhysics 4 года назад
Good question. Though these rays are not touching slit, they are very close to the slit(as the slit width is very small say in micrometers) where influence(for very short distance) of atoms of the slit is present. Because of interaction of electric field of atoms of slit and electric field in wave, diffraction occurs. This is quantum mechanical phenomenon. If the slit width is large, central rays will not diffract and will go straight.

@@SSPhysics Sir , but according to Huygens's principle each point in the plane of the slit will behave as a secondary wavelet and therefore light goes in all possible directions so that's why rays bend at an angle of theta ?

Sr in this video you showed that the rays diffracted downword at the point A. But we know diffracted rays go along the geometrical shadow region.but here the rays diffracted towards the eluminated region.how could it be possible?
@SSPhysics
@SSPhysics 6 лет назад
Here slit width is shown big for convenience. That's why it appears like that.
@chandrasekharbehera8796
@chandrasekharbehera8796 6 лет назад
But sir how the rays from A&B will be parallel. If the slit width is very small,then also we can show one ray going upward and another downwards.
@SSPhysics
@SSPhysics 6 лет назад
When single ray passes through slit party it get diffracted upward, partly downward and partly goes straight i.e. parallel or undiffracted.
@vibodhj349
@vibodhj349 5 лет назад
@@chandrasekharbehera8796 Here, the diffraction effect is shown at a single point on the screen and that is why we are considering all the wavefronts/rays which are propagating parallel to each other( Assuming refraction of all the parallel rays is the same throughout) which helps us reach the conclusion that the point is of minimum intensity( If we assume that the total path difference is equal to the wavelength of the light incident on the slit)
@vibodhj349
