Collecting high rarity cards is both so expensive but so satisfying at the same time. I've recently been blinging out my Plant deck and it hit me the other day that even with out the Championship Pack Lonefires, I still have close to $1,000 dollars in my Plant package alone. Shit's wild but it's so rewarding to step back and look at everything you have acquired over the years.
Loved this. So much nostalgia. If I could go back to competing I would love to run a full deck of the lowest rarity cards, just to trigger high tier opponents. I regret not doing this.
Was a fun video! I was kinda shocked to see how much some of these cards went up to, because I own them and have bought them for nowhere close to this. Yalls banter was entertaining, so would love to have him or any other guest back on!
For everyone out there that is unaware it is important to point out that 1st ED Duelist Genesis and Crossroads of chaos was almost exclusively available from sneak peek and tins. Recently we have started to see pictures of empty boxes of 1st ed for those sets but they have been only in Europe. The rarity of 1st ed for those sets is truly what drives the price of those cards which is why there are such big gaps between 1st and unlimited for those sets compared every other set (besides like LOB).
Doesn’t affect the price really. We talked about that with the prices of cards like Icarus that is holding at ~$300 for the original super rare. If you have max rarity you don’t have to worry about reprints tbh.
This was interesting. I don't play maxed decks but sometimes the cards I want happen to be the ones everyone else wants. Like for example, the secret Retiari was bought out recently for some reason.
GB's have been gaining popularity in Edison wildly fast. It's probably a mix of newer players coming into the format as well as people just trying different things outside of the normal top meta. I was thoroughly surprised to even see the rare Retiari's sitting where they are price-wise as well.
I refuse to buy max rarity stuff that wasn't around during 2010. There's just no nostalgia for me and doesn't feel period correct. I'm buying original max rarity stuff for my younger self who wanted it so bad but couldn't when I was younger!
When you said that yugioh economics makes no sense, I felt that like a car hitting me. You look at DREV ultimate 1st edition veiler and AP04 Tour Guide from the underworld, those cards are in price discovery mode, they are discovering how low they can go. Cards like AP04 Trishula, TU Foolish Burial, and Ulti MST are still holding value. It doesn't make sense how certain cards can survive the 25th century reprint set while certain cards get crated into the ground.
I'd be very careful with any edison picks man. We already know trident reprint coming soon. Bonanza after that means more edison reprints. If you pay 60+ dollars for amaryllis then you played yourself.
@kuyagoldlink7563 this was my outlook as well. They have been very in tune with what is popular and happening, moreso since they started doing the UTW Edison events. The substitoad reprint will tell alot if it doesn't come off the modern banlist next month, but they're also reprinting Maxx C and I doubt that will make its way back legal in the TCG. (but you never know!) I woukd put money on Amaryllis, all the Monarchs, a few Frog cards, and some Gladiator Beast cards being shoe-ins for the Bonanza set.
25:30 I don't think the rarity being the same matters with older cards because of the image and card border differences. As far as high rarity/max decks. The older cards still have the smaller image frame and wider border and I think that is what most people value when making retro format decks like goat, edison, etc. At least me personally. I can't have new print cards mixed with the older cards in my decks
Agreed, I know some that like the max rarity no matter what while others will like to build the deck "true to it's time". It all comes down to preference at the end of the day, but I'm very much so having trouble sleeving up these SCR Substitoads lol.
I like the insight provided here. I was always a max rarity guy back in the day but when cards started to really spike in 2018 I took a step back running max rarity. Too much value was being lost when using the cards instead of making sure they kept the condition but it was impossible to see the values going up this high. 25th really changed the market in a way that made me start to question buying cards with how much Ultis fell. I have def become more timid when buying high rarity cards that were printed from after turbo pack era.
1st edition of TDGS and CSOC were suuuuuper short printed. You basically could only get them from the pre-release. Thats why Stardust and Black rose are so hard to find, on top of being a collector card and playable
Man I remember when my friends judged me when I picked up ghost 1st stardusts and black roses for 90 bucks back in 2009 they told me I should have bought the ultras for 10 bucks instead
The secrets will always be super nostalgic and what I think of when the signer dragons come to mind. But when I got my 1st ed ghost stardust it's a beaut!
In reprint speculation the final Speed Duel expansion coming out in November could possibly give us Trap Dustshoots and Royal Oppressions for Odion and his trap based precon deck being featured in it. Sadly our only shot outside of like Quarter Century Bonanza I don't see Amaryllis getting one unless they did a 5DS retro product because it was an Akiza boss monster along Black Rose Dragon that didn't care about banned cards like Speed Duel but they are ending it after Battle City finals.
Great video, when is the 200 card pack of old cards getting released? I'm trying to find more info on it, it was mentioned in the video, but I don't know the name of it. Also have to say when i saw marketwatch video this long, i was like why would it be so long, but well worth it.
Just so I could be a second opinion on this... it's likely that I was the person who your friend sold theirs to. Because, I had bought a 1st Ed Ghost Stardust for $1700. It was a card that I had been wanting to obtain for 15 years, since 5D's dropped when I was a kid. I was on the hunt for one of three cards, this was honestly my main one. The price tag hurt, though. I ran into the homie after the my first few tournament matches didn't go well. Just shows I gotta hit the lab some more. And, that sometimes it ain't your day. I also wanted to say, I've seen your content for a while now as well. And, wanted to extend a thank you for being one of the primary people, along with some others, with a presence on here that's helped move Edison up to the forefront. I hope Konami can host large events like this in the area or more Edison-related events can happen in the Austin area, selfishly so they can be closeby for me. I was able to have a pretty good time and I got to interact with loads of cool people, it was a major relief/break between for me since it's been a rough few weeks personally. So, it meant a lot. That said, hope you have a good one and if everything goes well, hopefully the community will hear more from me in the future haha. Bird Supremacy. 🙏💪😂
Quarter Century Bonanza. It's not an entire nostalgia set. Each pack is going to have a single slot reserved for any 1 out of 200 cards (a sub-set inside of this set) in either QCSR or Platinum.
Amaryllis is quite possibly one of the worst ROI decks in the format, each piece is $84. For $252 you can get a playset for a deck that has never taken 1st place at any RBET or YCS. It would be cheaper to buy a HERO frog, Blackwing, or Vayu Turbo deck for half the cost of 3x Amaryllis and have a chance at taking 1st place at an event.
lol I meannnn it has a 2nd place and a lot of top placements. It's only a matter of time before it wins an event I think. 4th best deck in the format imo
@@imnerdpodcast 2nd place is good, but as you mentioned in the video, all the good prize support is locked in 1st place. Anything is possible and Amaryllis could take 1st place at an RBET or YCS later on this year, but even if it does, vayu turbo, blackwings, and hero frogs still has more 1st place finishes.
