🚣🏿♀️ The safety of our participants and members is at the heart of everything we do at Fulham Reach Boat Club. Our brilliant Boatclub Manager, Alastair Horn, & Junior Head Coach, Will Hetherington, have created a Step by Step Guide for How to Get into a Sculling Boat Safely.
⚡️Watch Will demonstrate getting into a single sculling boat and below are the steps:
1. Check the bow ball, hatch cover(s) and heal restraints before heading down to the water.
2. Place first blade into nearest swivel and close gate.
3. Place the second blade into the opposite swivel and close gate.
4. Hold both blade handles together in one hand.
5. With the other hand slide the seat towards the bow, revealing the anti-slip area on the deck.
6. Step onto the anti-slip area, steadying yourself with your free hand.
7. Squat down onto the seat keeping hold of the handles in one hand.
8. With your free hand remove your footwear and place in front of the boats shoes.
9. With the same hand place your feet into the shoes and close the Velcro straps.
10. Push your legs down to assume the safety position.
11. Keeping the spoons feathered on top of the water, take hold of one handle in each hand.
