I paid off my final student loan debt last week! Specifically, that was $25,000 in student loan debt plus a $10,000 car payment all paid off in 3 years. YNAB helped me stay on top of my expenses so I could prioritize throwing as much income at my debt as possible while still having a comfortable life guilt-free. Thank you thank you, YNAB!
Excellent video, per usual. If you were already enrolled in an IDR (especially REPAYE), your servicer probably hasn’t updated your expected payment to reflect the new SAVE program. Make sure you’ve applied or been moved to SAVE, but don’t count on the payment information being accurate (mine isn’t). The expected payment indicated is probably higher than you’ll end up needing - so, if you follow Ben’s advice here, in October you’ll likely have a pleasant surprise and a roomier budget! (Also, be sure to find out if you qualify for public service loan forgiveness- that’s ten years of payments instead of twenty or twenty-five).
There's always gonna be the "Shoulda, coulda, woulda" nonsince but, in the end, your debts must be paid by you instead of waiting for them to be paid by someone else!! That will create more debt!!
