Have you considered doing a book of your mystery crochet patterns? Include the original pattern, your experimental result, a "translated" pattern into clear, modern terms (including all the implied steps), and the final, finished product we can expect from using that translated pattern? I think that would be so fun! People could try either the old pattern or the new (or both, of course). Sprinkle in some tips and lessons for how to read vintage patterns and how to crochet with the teeny tiny thread and hooks.
Omg yes cause I was about to start a shawl and I wanted a good vintage pattern but I couldn’t find the shawl from the mystery patterns that I was thinking of.
I tried all of the other methods for learning a magic circle and I hated it. Then I watched you do it and tried your method. I have no problems at all with magic circles anymore! Thank you! 😊
@@SarushaIsMyName the way I learned to do the magic ring is the way Corinna does and then I saw a short video that all a magic circle is, is the slip knot that you start crocheting with, you just don’t cinch it but crochet into it! I’ve never been confused since.
The sweetest thing I've ever seen is my cat, a couple of weeks after bringing her home from the shelter, settling under my floor/bed desk, watching me with absolute adoration. And then she cut the foulest fart in world history. I still love her. 💖 She's eight now! (Might have to make these flowers for my mom. She's got three broken ribs and is mostly stuck in bed. Gotta finish some Halloween bags first, though.)
Am I the only one that yells at you through the screen when you are missing a stitch or misunderstanding the directions? LOL i love watching the mystery patterns. I have to watch alone though as others in the room think I'm losing it when I shout "noooo! its a dc and 2 trebles in the same stitch!"
Hello Corrina, cute flower coaster. I agree the little flower moffet can be used as a coaster, or added to clothing, or a bag. Looking forward to you next video as always. ❤
Flower Power! I'm a 70s girl and we put flower appliques on everything! I love it! I can see that being on a hat too 😊 Yes, use it on your knit sweater. Going to have to learn the magic ring too. Thanks a bunch! 🌻
The magic ring is actually quite simple. A bit finicky at first perhaps, but nothing too hard. Make a very loose slip knot and... there's your magic ring. But... I suggest you learn the other way of doing it, so you can do a double wrapped magic circle with even more protection against an unravelling center.
Oh nice, you're doing 1970s..finally get to watch you do one. Both my husband and I were born in early 70s. Love the pattern will try it out. No worries we all goof up. You did a good job hun!
Those are adorable. Yes, they could be used for applique on all sorts of items, on the arms of a sweater or a tote bag. Oh boy, you have sparked a fire with that one. Thanks.
Ok but I have been looking for a pattern for a heptagon for a blanket I'm working on and the case for this is just what I needed. This could not have come at a better time, and I'm so grateful for it!
My daughter has been wanting me to recreate (from memory) an old crocheted dress she had, back in the mid 90's. It was black cotton, with a row of small flower appliques, similar to these, at the hemline (worked in size 10 cotton). So, I'll be saving this one, for if/when I make that for her.
Wonderful! I am really into Peace Activism, and this project taught me how to increase my flower power! Thank you! P.S. A Bulky-Five Weight yarn is good for coasters.
I made coasters with a soil brown center and green leaves around. If you fold them up an put them into a small flower pot they look like plants! Wouldn't it be fun to make one flower and attach it to a chopstick, covered in green yarn and put it in the middle???? Uhhh, all those ideas!!
This is absolutely representative of the 1970's. I feel like a kid again, having watched this. I was not expecting coasters, but it makes sense, given the decade, and you're right, they would make excellent appliques on everything. The size 0 hook suggested with rug yarn sent up a red flag for me; I think they meant a size O, which would have been huge. The largest hook I own is a size L, and that's 8mm, so the O hook would probably be a centimeter in diameter. You did a great job, no matter how many petals you ended up with. And for you, I'll learn the magic ring; you could have done a ch 4 and 20 dc in the last ch from the hook, but to each his (or her) own.
I am early 😁 and excited! Sweet indeed. If you go to put it on yourbswaeter I would recoment going by the nomber of three, its an art "rule". Adleast I would go by two or repaet it on the shoulder, but every tast is different. I can see this as nice summery deco on a balcony as well.
"I keep coming up short..." It seems to me that when the pattern says (for example) ch 3, 20 dc in ring, you've been processing that as ch 3, 19 dc for a total of 20 st, when you should have had a total of 21 st-the ch plus the 20..
Name that movie was Kindergarten Cop. Also I love watching your videos while I’m working on a project. Glad I’m not the only person who struggles with some of these patterns😂
I think you were supposed to have a chain 3 PLUS 20 dc at the start for a total of 21….that gives you 3 ch to work each petal…2 for the petal plus one slip stitch to separate the 7 petals. The second slip just serves to get you into the right stitch to start the next petal. Note: the lily pad bottom of the case also has seven sections.
OMG you’re knitting as well. Please do tutorials for knitting on your channel. Me as a crochet-artist don’t understand the world of knitting, can you help me becoming an expert?? Love your video’s and very detailed instructions, even as an experienced crochet artist you helped me understanding and try new patterns. Continue the good works 👍🥰p.s I’m recently working the Queen’s Lace crochet throw, it’s beautiful
I would put the flower on a pin to attach to the sweater. That way you could put it wherever you want on the sweater and change it out for other motifs as you wish.
The petal thing was just the initial chain 3 was counted as one of your 20dc, when it should've been ch3 AND 20dc, which would've given 21 stitches around allowing for 7 petals. It always bugs me when they dont tell you explicitly what multiple you should be working or if the initial chain counts as a stitch. I did an awful lot of unravelling when i was firat learning. The wording on this one was a little weird, but i recognized the instruction right away because i recently made a very similar coaster set (no leaves on mine though).❤
The 1970’s was hippy movement and they had a saying called “ Flower Power”. They probably sewed those flowers on their clothes or whatever they chose. That’s my guess. Flower power!
It looks pink to me, wondering what it will be. Ok, rug yarn in the 70's was a very thick coarse yarn. I'm thinking these were coasters. A size L hook would not have been too big.
I'm only a few min in, but that first paragraph after the 21 dc in cream.. got me like 😵💫 what are they saying?? Lol Got to the end lol that wasn't as hard as my brain made it out to be 😅 your sweater looks great!
I haven't finished the video yet, but I would have turnes the stem upside down. I would have attached the longer end between the flower petals. Somehow the leaves looked like they naturally want to stick up that way......
You would possibly have had enough dc's in your circle for another petal IF you had not counted your ch 3 as one of the 20 dc's it asked for. It's usually the chain then the additional stitches listed.
@@justvintagecrochet it was an observation not a criticism, I think it turned out great and how it turned out is what makes it yours. I learn so much from your videos.,💕
I would love to make a video of how I make a magic ring but I don't have the means to. I have yet to find anyone else that does it the same way as I do... Mine cinches up TIGHT and I have NEVER had one come loose.
I bet, if you were using a rug yarn in real wool, it might not be so loosely goosey and bother you. Just a thought. But I haven’t seen how this turns out yet. 🤭
It's so frustrating! , Im hopping a new camera will fix that, though im gonna have to learn about color balancing now lol , I get frustrated with just yarn colors, I can't imagine how it feels when you have an image and create it and the camera does not show your image right... I sympathize!
@justvintagecrochet My brother in law does photography, and he taught me how to play with the saturation and effects to make it look right in a picture. The problem comes if I want it in a video. Then I have the same problem you do. Some of the colors just come out with the wrong tint or shade. I loved the coaster pattern, by the way! That will be such a cute touch to your amazing cardigan if you decide to add it.🫶
