If i wouldn´t read that she had guitar lesson for that scene i would have believe it that she had always played a guitar. Maybe a little bit stiff with a strumming hand but everything else looks genuine and natural..
She did, ive seen this movie since i was 14 and ive picked up my guitar many times and played along to this and my fingers do the same exact thing hers are
Jamie and Lindsay did such a great job in the movie. You can actually believe that there's a teenager's spirit trapped in an adult woman's body and vice-versa. Their movements, body and facial expressions, their voices. They had one job and they killed it.
@@traydaniel0403 Yes, from what I read in various comments, she's the one playing the guitar sound heard in the scene. But she recorded it previously and mimed it for the scene. By the fine movements it's very clear that she's not playing LIVE. Playing live is very, very rare in modern mainstream filmmaking.

@@Povo_Ratto Makes sense! I read in some comments here that it was her playing on the pre-recorded audio track. And yeah, the footage makes two things VERY clear: It's a pre-recorded track AND she has a very good notion of the fretting and articulation going on in the solo.
She's miming where the notes are perfectly but she isn't playing it. It's become sort of a fake factoid at this point that Jamie is playing the guitar solo in the movie. She isn't playing it, but she definitely knows how a guitar is played and practiced it
It's so beautiful 🥹😍 such a great solo and such an amazing performance, so much build-up too, making us believe Lindsay is gonna completely mess it up and them BAM, Jamie obliterates that solo like a freaking goddess. Ugh, it's just truly amazing work from everyone on that scene ❤
Guitar player here - fairly convincing miming actually, much more than many other films. There’s a few times where I can tell it’s not her playing or that she wasn’t confident on a few licks, but I imagine if it was actually her playing, it would be a halfway decent performance.
For the fact that she only learned it for the movie and plays much better than most "musicians" who have been playing for years really shows you how talented one is 💖
She is playing in this scene. She can play guitar and was coached further for this movie. However, I don't know if that's her on the recording. You can research it online.
She is clearly very aware of the solo. Maybe it's her on the recording, idk. But she's not playing live here. It comes close, but is clearly a pre-recorded audio.
@@PedroPetracco It's not JLC playing on the recording. It's a professional musician. Don't let anybody fool you in the comments. Jamie Lee Curtis didn't record that solo in the studio. The original song was recorded by an aussie band called Lash then covered by US sessions musicians for the movie with vocals from the actress Christina Vidal. They changed lyrics and added the solo which is clearly played by a seasoned pro. JLC was coached to mime the fingering of the solo for noobs but it still wouldn't sound exactly like this if you'd play what she's fingering (and strumming so hectically with your right hand).

For the record, in movies the music is recorded in the studio 1st. She is playing to a recording that she actually played on in the studio pre-recorded for the movie. Music in movies is not recorded live. Now carry on.
Some is, I know for both Mama Mia movies they recorded the music in a studio and had the actors sing live. So like while Meryl Streep is singing The Winner Takes it All it's both her recording and live singing meshed into one.
While she was playing it, is no secret that pretty much NO movie ever does a "live" recording of the songs unless it's a live concert of a band, the song was already made and she did learn to play the solo but the sound it's from the already existing recording... i really don't understand how there's any confusion about that, same in music videos of any band, the songs are already recorded and while they're playing it (mostly unplugged as in novermber rain lol) they're NOT recording it right there on the spot.
From Freaky Friday’s iMDB page: “A member of the band Orgy instructed Jamie Lee Curtis on how to play the guitar. In the concert sequence, although Curtis practiced at making it look authentic, in the finished film a studio musician overdubbed the guitar solo.” So she technically wasn’t playing it.
Actually she played the recording and whenever you are doing a movie it's not ''live'' but the dude from Orgy taught her those very chords maybe do alittle research before judging. :)

It is. What happens is the first note is picked, and then as the strings vibrate across the frets, it creates a "buzzing" sound. The strings continue to resonate because of the pressure on the string and the friction caused by being against the frets. Interesting fact - Jamie Lee Curtis actually played that solo.
What I can say as a guitarist is that you have to have a sustain so that the sound is maintained more than anything in solo or distortion part is maintained by how strong it is, but the final part that is the mute for the strings if I think so. let it be a playback
Haha all these guitarists saying "I play guitar and she definitely is playing it".. Look, she clearly kinda knows the solo and her hands are MOSTLY in the right positions, but anyone who's played guitar for any significant length of time should know she's not playing it here. Don't get me wrong: she did a great job, very accurate for this kind of movie and she clearly plays guitar. But what you're hearing in this clip is NOT what you're seeing. Does it matter? She played all the right notes, not sure she was actually plucking. Looked it up and it was dubbed over. But did a good job making it authentic, just like Michael J. Fox did in back to the future
From what I've read she didn't actually play the solo yes she was coached on how to play it and yes her fingers are in all the right places with the amp on and the guitar plugged in but turn the volume off on the guitar and overdub it its not that hard and with a little post production magic the audience thinks the actor is playing
@@traydaniel0403 Anyone familiar enough with fretting and articulation can tell two things: One, it's a pre-recorded audio track that she's miming to. Two, she's miming pretty well, very aware of the fretting and articulation of the original pre-recorded solo. Maybe she did record it originally, I don't know. But she's miming in the scene. That's absolutely for sure.
Fun fact, both Jamie lynn and Lindsey learned to play this song, the garage scene is actually Lindseys solo,, and this band competition is actually Jamie Lynn's solo
