Anyone who knows old films, knows the Judy Garland, Angela Lansbury film "The Harvey Girls." - 1946. The film was a bit corny but it did give a good idea of what it took to be a Harvey Girl and their training
Most people these days having not traveled by rail prior to Amtrak, would not know Fred Harvey's footprint, but back in the day, the restaurants inside many, perhaps most Union stations across the country were Fred Harvey operations. These usually meant a good meal could be had while you waited for your train if you arrived early at the station or were waiting for a ride home after disembarking a train. Fred Harvey's always meant a good hot meal and ample portions when I traveled...back in the day.
