Of all the stuff I've seen, what this guy does is obviously working to me. It makes sense and cuts out all the fluff and gets to the point real fast and effectively. I think I finally found something I'd like to train in and go figure, there's only training in a few world cities and nothing close to here in Canada. Looks like the DVD is the only way but that is not the proper way to train in anything. You need someone there to work with and practice on. That sucks.

Those complaining...this title include "how-to?" Or "full training session?" How about "sparring session?" I only speak up bc we men are under enough attack by misandrists; shouldn't attack our brothers in this increasingly anti-men world. This vid is first of all an AD, and combine that with cramming perhaps too much in to show the drawn out struggles of SPARRING. its an ad, NOT AT ALL a HOW-TO. And his MMA match (so different from street, btw, at least the street and bar fights i've been in where there aren't rules), what, a decade ago or something like that? As an ad, i found it entertaining as hell. LOVED the community/camaraderie vibe at the end.

The most important part of a street fight is the safety of yourself and whoever is with you. From what I have seen from the multiple videos you guys post, what you have shown are pretty much spot-on on how to deal with the situation. I've been seeing way too many keyboard warriors saying the "fancy" techniques won't work in a real life situation and that the other guy will fight back-- well ain't that fcking obvious? These techniques give you options to choose from if a situation arises. Key note is : Having options. When shit goes down in real life, it all happens fast and with high pressure giving you little to no time to think, but when you have trained enough with the proper techniques, your body will remember it (muscle memory like how you remember where the keys are in your keyboard) giving you a decent chance to defend yourself. My 2 cents, Could've worded it better but it's late at night. The videos that you post-- albeit a mere preview of what you have to offer-- has been very informative to me. My respects to you guys at Funker Tactical and MDS. Keep it up!

Thank you for not being yet another member of the Brazilian Butt-Grabbing cult not understanding the difference between a demonstration and sport-sparring. YES! Explore! Bruce Lee had it right...explore, so CAN be like water. Yes, ABSOLUTELY one should have ground technique in one's arsenal - beit BJJ, judo, the original japanese jujitsu, sambo or wrestling - as LAST line of defense if MAJORLY screw up....but the Brazilian 69ers should keep to their cult's self-deluding echo chambers.

This was good viewing. Similarities between this and Krav Maga. Both are practical, functional and effective. They work. Scenarios are obviously choreographed for demonstration and instruction purposes, but these are merely insights into how much more there is behind them and how much farther they can go.

Some of these techniques are great and some look really cool, but how much can you trust a martial art where the opponent is giving zero resistance. The instructor says "you hit here, then here, then to the knees, and that's it" like that's exactly how it'll go in real life. There are very few martial arts that actually get tested on someone whose fighting back, stick to those.

@overclucker
@overclucker 7 лет назад
To be honest, this is very typical for a demo. You show students (and potential students) something fancy but when you drill, it's meat and potatoes. The school I trained at also do choreographed demos, and we always love watching them, but we drill basics more than anything else. I will admit that a lot of what I saw was impractical, and wont work the way you expect it to. There's no way of telling if it's part of the course work.
@jomess7879
@jomess7879 7 лет назад
when teaching you dont have resistance, you show what it looks like in the perfect world. you drill this to get familiar then up the resistance. i have had students resist me while i am trying to teach. i get the technique to work any way but the student is almost always hurt to some degree and the students who were watching learned nothing.
@overclucker
@overclucker 7 лет назад
jomess7879 Yeah, some demonstration partners can be a bit squirrelly, but I don't consider it bad thing. It's an opportunity to demonstrate to students how to make the technique work and being careful of your partner. I've always had tight wrists, wrist locks don't work on me unless you get the angle and leverage just right, so naturally my shifu found this out when he used me for demonstration one day, and I've been the goto for wrist lock demonstrations ever since. I think the point I'm trying to make here is that there isn't really a perfect world even in the training room, much less outside it, and demonstrations are the best opportunity to teach how to deal with imperfect opponents.

@@davidhutchison7567 ?? s.f.u pussy. I am Italian but I practice discipline in a country in Belgium because work forces me to stay here. When there was the Bruges Antwerp football game, there was a violent brawl among the supporters, then quelled by the police. I came from 5 years of boxing and 2 friends, from 3 of Krav maga. I, I went away swollen in the various collutations and with a broken arm for a hit of baseball bat. My friends, unharmed. One of them made 16 months in prison for breaking a boy's jaw on the sidewalk in full "american history x" style. my other friend, on the other hand, beat 4 guys with a knife in his hand. I, to my credit, had 18 amateur boxking matches of which 16 were won and two lost and 4 professional matches all won. Despite this, I got them. Now, if you've never done some fighting style, don't talk, stupid donkey. The figures in the gym are made and repeated with nausea for a reason. Fred Mastro is an advocate of the discipline. I have been practicing Krav maga for 2 years now and they still sound good to me. But you can always join the gym and try; otherwise SHUT THAT FUCK UP.

It looks like a combination of Filipino self defense,, and hapkido, only problem seems too me there’s submissions on behalf of the opposition, the fact the opponent doesn’t really do much in response, I know jeet kune do, aikido, and krav ma ga, although krav ma ga is a combination of jeet kune do and karate, krav ma ga doesn’t teach you all what you need to learn, they stop you at level 2 if lucky usually they stop you at level 1, with lots of repetitions., they’re in it for your money, although their techniques just as aggressive as mastro self defense, they are both but failed attempts to a complete a whole self defense systems., they know it and I know it., mostly these kicks are not out of the ordinary, like Muay tai low kicks or Taekwondo’s combination kicks, hand movements from Wing tsun mix jeet kune do., they are influenced by each other almost in closed lube., if you learn any two or three different styles your mind will automatically create a whole new system all on its own.. I know I did, and it’s far exceeds kra ma ga, Russian systema, and maestro self defense all put together, these shows are but impressive to those who do not see them for what they are, very deceptive instructions to earn them money., I know because I fell victim to these clowns at one time

All this technical display is a great selling point however to make them as efficient you're gonna need to train for many years. Everything Mastro shows is Goju-ryu karate. All this stuff are different bunkai's (some modified maybe) that are derived from kata. There are 10: Gekisai-dai 1, Gekisai-dai 2, Saifa, Seiunchin, Shishochin, Sanseru, Sepai, Kururunfa, Sesan and Suparinpei. In each there are endless amounts of bunkai's. If you do them for long enough you can come up with bunkai's yourself and that's actually what the best masters from Okinawa ask from you once you go to demostrate your kata knowledge - your own bunkai. In order to achieve that however each kata needs to be repeated 100 times a day to build a muscle memory so that the tech comes out in a quarter of a second. What I am trying to say is that all those self defence classes are doomed to be fraud because they are essentially based on illusion that you can learn game ending technique and you'll be able to execute it in every street scenario. In reality you're going to have to apply years of training to survive in a battle. One renowned russian General once said: "The harder you train the easier the battle" No tricks.

MoreAmerican that goes without saying if you hit somebody in the throat you're afraid to kill him, but how many people you know is going to stand there and let you hit him in the throat? Let me answer that," zero " that's how many. Now I guarantee you any instructor that wants to plan out attacks and say do this and do that when this happens and that happens, they're setting their pupils up to get hurt. That's why all my pupils train live after I demonstrate techniques then they go full go as I walk around and help them with their techniques because in real life there's nothing planned and choreographed that's going to work. anything can happen and you must be prepared for it by natural Body memory and reaction. Not a planned sequence of technique moves that are not going to work

+Funker Tactical - Fight Training Videos I think this kind of training is good too. if you practice safety and not actually using force against your training partners, you're teaching bad habit. That will translate in the streets too to weak striking. By training with safety always in mind, you're teaching to miss and deliver without intent.

@1917cutlass
@1917cutlass 7 лет назад
Don't get me wrong folks. I've trained with some GREAT instructors over the years, and have scars and splints to show for it. But pain tolerance is just that, tolerance. Damage is still occurring, and that damage builds up over the years and takes a mighty toll. I'm all for realistic training, but going hard in moderation has been shown to be the way to go for both military personnel and athletes if long term performance is the goal. To get a better idea of what I'm talking about, look how competitive Russian boxers and wrestlers train. People in the U.S. would criticize them as not going hard enough, but they produce the best wrestlers in the world and arguably have started to produce the best boxers in the world as well. Different military organizations and branches have found the same thing. I recommend watching some interviews with and studying with martial arts practitioners who have been practicing at least for 40 years and have relevant titles and awards. It might change your perspectives my friends.

@@stephenbradford7936 Most of his techniques are choreographed, I know those are very situational and most likely unusable, but that does not mean Krav Maga and Silat won't work. As a Krav Maga practitioner (not his student) I can tell you that we have very rough sparrings, and adding those techniques to my kickboxing background is even better. Here is my point, MMA is a sport that leads in 80% to ground fighting, and this is a death sentence in a street fight, that's why I think the concept of Krav Maga is well founded and suited for street fights. And by the way, there is no ,,better fighting style'', the winner is the one who is willing to win and practice his techniques on a regular basis.

Hey GN, I know this maybe a dumb question but why do they always exaggerate the hits of the attacker and the receiver? is it much better if it's more natural that there's a a little bit defense on the receivers end a little bit of tension so the instructor has to use a little more strength to control the person? cuz' in real life there will be a no fluid flow of attack and defense on both sides. I dont know I'm not an expert , just a quick thought. or maybe you can address it in another video. thanks
@EvLSpectre
@EvLSpectre 7 лет назад
yundaime07 Well for one thing, the person receiving the attack pretty much needs to flow with the attack. If not. they could get injured, even if less force is being used. I learned that the hard way.
@FunkerTactical
@FunkerTactical 7 лет назад
First, thanks for being respectful and not like some of the idiots commenting. --- MDS doesnt believe in "hitting the air" so their students progress pain tolerance through conditioning over time. The attacker does controlled impact while the receiver "throws" it---this prevents actual damage. Think "Breaking the Fall" in BJJ.

As a lifelong martial artist, REAL martial arts (muy thai, kickboxing, BJJ, wrestling, kung fu) a lot of these "demos" are flakey. Instructors get their students to do a lot of flopping and falling. I believe this guy is a good martial artist but the flopping annoys me
@hamidqh5764
@hamidqh5764 7 лет назад
Silat is a self defense,deadly,dirty art,youre comparing cage martial arts (with rules) to a self defense system,but just like sparring in any mma art flopping is also essential to self defense systems. Ps:mma in general will get you killed on the streets,imagine using bjj against a knife wielding opponent,you wanna stay away from the weapon not hug it like bjj lol.

Vengeful Knight U have NO idea what Kung Fu I did and with whom. Not that this matters but I have same same Sifu as Kevin James, the actor. His is actually a very talented martial artist. Sifu James Robinson (Kevin took the name James as his stage name out of a sign of respect, his real last name is Knipfing or some shit. He also put Sifu in the movie Here comes the Boom, he is the 1st guy he fights in an MMA fight) In any case if u think James Robinson teaches an uneffective form of Kung Fu u are an absolute moron!! @samvalentine9243
@samvalentine9243 7 лет назад
Shugyo ForYou but it's an unnatural reaction. At least in the demos we are seeing in this video, his partners are not resisting enough to simulate a real situation. They aren't being good training partners. You don't just let your instructor kick the shit out of you to make his techniques seem more devastating. That's more disrespectful than providing realistic resistance to then properly demonstrate the effectiveness of the technique. Most of these demos begin with the partner throwing ONE half-assed attack and then just waiting to be hit after that. In a real situation, people MOVE. They panic, struggle, tense up. Fred would not be able to perform a simple standing arm/wrist lock on some of these bigger dudes. If those techniques work, they work ONCE because you caught them off guard.

@samvalentine9243
@samvalentine9243 6 лет назад
I would gladly spar any of them. At least in sparring you can agree on an intensity before starting, rather than unexpectedly going full force on a willing partner during a demonstration like Mr. Mastro. You know what I would like to see? _Any_ amount of real sparring footage featuring Fred Mastro. Too bad he only does demonstrations on ragdolling partners. Demonstration is incredibly flawed and tells us nothing beyond theory. Even sparring is flawed because it doesn't have the unpredictability that reality does, but at least the partners are resisting and making some sort of real contact.
