A tribute to the 1960's British Invasion band Freddie and the Dreamers.
While Freddie Garrity felt that the band's dance routine made their music, I feel that it only enhanced it, as they were and are one of my favorite bands from the period. I hope you will enjoy.

Freddie was a great guy. I was lucky to work with him back in 1999. Fun to be with him in his Range Rover as we drove around Sleaford in Lincolnshire.

They and the other Liverpool & Manchester groups that followed The Beatles deserve to have been inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Unfortunately I wasn't there, as I wasn't born until 1979, but I have always loved the era and wish that I had been a part of it. Freddie was a wonderful entertainer, have enjoyed his work for years now:)

I was a teen ager during that wonderful time of the 60's but am sorry to say I never heard this song until now. It's terrific. It's very Freddie and the Dreamers which is to say it's got everything a song should have-great melody and beat, sincere lyrics, easy listening in the way music used to be and it's the kind of song that brings a smile and memory. I miss that special time.

"I understand" is a beautiful and sincere song, I agree. It's a favorite of mine. While I love Freddie's humor and energy, I also believe that he was a serious musician, much more than he gave himself credit for!

Oh, Freddie, I think you already have said "The Things I'd Like To Say." A delightful song done as only Freddie and The Dreamers could do it. This is really an uplifting, fun song. Just wonderful. This definitely screams 1960s! Thank you for this post.

I wish I had found them sooner. I love their music. I have read the comments and maybe some fans from their heyday could help me out. Their film "Cuckoo Patrol", what ever happened to the three songs they did in the film. They were cool. Its bad enough that I cant find a correct discography or a cd where a song hasn't been cut out. Serenadesong I was born in 72 and know how you feel. Wish I had been a part of this era too.

Cuckoo Patrol was made in 1965 and not released until 1967. Unfortunately, Freddie & the Dreamers star was on the wane by the time it was released EMI were losing interest in them.

Yeah, it would be wonderful if EMI released a set like that, although to date I haven't heard of any plans to do so unfortunately! He really does deserve the respect. He worked hard at what he did.

Written by the then The Beatles producer Norman 'Normal' Smith.

Norman Smith had mentioned this song when in a feature for The Beatles Book in 1965. He wanted to give it to The Beatles who to be fair to them gave it serious consideration, but opted for Ringo to sing Act Naturally instead.

If I am asked which place in time I would like to go back to it would have to be the end of 1962 as a teenager when rock & roll in the UK changed beyond recognition.

It sounds like the same type of piano or something like that that they used in some of their other recordings.
