I must give Freddie Garrity & the Dreamers their due - They found a way to set themselves apart from the huge pack of British Invasion groups (which including so many other talented types) in such a way that was provided good music (albeit, some novelty songs) and a darn good entertaining time...
I was too young to remember the Beatles when they hit America, but I remember these guys a year later. The dance probably caught my eye. Freddie must have been quite athletic, he got up pretty high on his leaps. Great voice too. They were destined not to last, but they are remembered.
Freddie and The Dreamers were musicians but they were also PERFORMERS. Whether or not you're entertained by it, there is a definite comedic commitment in their presentation. They didn't dabble.
Freddie Garrity never got the recognition he deserved. Countless Pantomimes and Shows, all over the Country, entertaining kids and adults with his Zany Humour, but he could sing as well. Now,they give honours to Nobodies,on a whim.
You have to give it to this amazing group. They all have great time keeping, and to be playing while doing all those movements as well as singing. Freddie has PERFECT breath control and a handsome strong voice.
Imagine if Keith and Mick had never met and Brian had never left Cheltenham . Charlie never learned Rock n roll and Bill had tried to learn the trumpet . We might have been stuck with these cretins .
I was on stage with him twice. Adelphi Slough, and Palladium during Pantomime. Him dressed as Fred Flintstone, swinging on a rope, and we changed places, with me returning on the rope from the wings, with the kids screaming. And singing You were made for me.
I saw this show recently on Talking Pictures, they were the best thing on it. I have heard their records and remember then in a series called Oliver In The Overworld when I was very young. Never seen their proper stage act, they were great.
Very under-rated group with a sizeable discography, some of it on Spotify. Saw the original (real) line-up live in a summer season, probably Gt Yarmouth, early 1970s, I don't remember exactly. Back then you could see everybody on seaside piers, at pocket-money prices. No rip-off tickets in those days. This was pretty much their act, and Freddie was tiny but massive on stage. The group were big for a couple of years and sold albums in the US as well as UK. Freddie kept performing till 2001. "I'm Telling You Now" is a 1963 song by Freddie Garrity and Mitch Murray, though the group recorded/played covers and a lot of their releases were on the Columbia label.
This group was phenomenal! I can't believe I never heard of them before. This is hilarious. Definitely got a British Jerry Lewis thing going on but at the time he was one of the Kings of comedy. This is just too funny
They did comedy routines to non comedy song's, when you think about it this isn't a comedy record. They had 5 top 5 hits and a top 5 album in the space of 2 year's and none of Thier songs were comedy record's. They did a couple on their albums and released those as singles but they didn't get anywhere in the chart's. They just wanted to be different than any of the other acts of the time
Really, that would not go over today, they wouldn’t even make on America got talent, the man could sing but the screaming and jumping around were a turn off part of the reason they didn’t last as long as other groups of their period 🤷♂️
I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when Freddie, Pete, and Derek were first getting together and Freddie was pitching this as their hook.
LOOKING A LITTLE LIKE BUDDY HOLLY - - LIVE - - AND SOUNDING GREAT - - LOTS OF WONDERFUL CLASSIC ENERGY - - TREMENDOUS COMEDY - - I REMEMBER THEM WELL - - FREDDIE AND THE DREAMERS - - GREAT VOICE - - BAND SWINGS - - ON TIME - - GREAT DANCING - - THE BEAT GOES ON - - JOY TO THE WORLD - - FREDDIE AND THE DREAMERS WERE MADE FOR COMEDY - - DO THE FREDDIE ! ! ! ! ! !
Can't beat the old artists or there music was wicked if tho I weren't brought up in those times Mt mom and dad always had this music playing even I'm these times now we live in
yeah hey? They also had some unique musical numbers like "A Windmill in Olde Amsterdam," & "A Little You" was a great rockin single that deserved top ten. They weren't the Beatles but deserved better chart success @ the time!!
Some other worthy sounds from these guys. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NM5sekQfzGs.html & comedy ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HvRowG5a05s.html
@@albo2006 Do you know if F&TD's See You Later Alligator is here on youtube? I know there was a playlist for it last year but it got blocked in the US so I can't listen to it anymore.

It boggles me why these guys didn't have more of a career ,ok as a band of course they are outstanding and Freddie sure can sing ,I don't know if there might of been a place for them in the age of Aquarius late 60s , but damm they easily could have had their own MontyPython type of absurd abstract comedy along with the great music, but more cutting edge than the Monkees .oh well.
@@pinedelgado4743 *All* the Dreamers were underrated and in the background, based on the videos I've seen. I suppose that's true of all the "and the" groups. I'd love to see or read more about the Dreamers. Freddie got lots of publicity but I'm curious about Bernie and Derek and Roy and Pete.
Pure entertainment...today's so called entertainers fake and mime when dancing. Try jumping like Freddy and sing. He really had a good range but people thought of him as a novelty , which he was , a brilliant comedic talent . He should've been the UKs Jerry Lewis .
I would be interested in how they did the sound. The instruments are live because they cleverly do not get tangled up with their cables, but do they have radio mics for the vocals? I wish all bands could be as talented and entertaining as this.
"Gimme Some Lovin" was definitely a direct attack on Hermans Hermits who was in the same musical bracket as Freddie during the British Invasion. Peter acts like a cute little boy onstage when singing "Mrs Brown" and a few others. It looks as though Freddie pretends to be Peter, can't hold back being Freddiness inside (the jumps), and then the band gives up on him. LOL
Holy-moly! Given all the wild theatrical gyrations the band endured---while wearing suits and dress shoes{!)---it might have actually been a Nighmare being a Dreamer. 😬
Freddie's is clearly hanging round his neck at 7:34. I think the cables are just trailing round after them but they're very hard to see as the video quality is quite low.
@@MarkMcCluney yes how did they do those Turns without getting tangled in their cords ? It does sound live for sure . They didn’t miss a beat when they collapsed to the floor . Was there a band pit just off the stage ?
I'm pretty sure I can see the lead from Derek's guitar around 3:05. Just before the loud bit where they startle Freddie. The quality is so low it's hard to be sure at any other time.
