Your father was respected by the best trumpet players I have ever known. i'm a retired musician and know a lot of heavy players and the mere mention of your father brings a smile. Take care Duane, Sam
Your father is the reason I ever appreciated Jazz in the first place. I was 17 when I first heard Skydive, and then Little Sunflower, and later Red Clay. Shortly after, I bought my first Jazz album, a Freddie Hubbard album. I have been listening ever since and usually start my mornings listening to First Light. There are an array of outstanding trumpeters, and your father is the best of them all. Take care.
Freddie Hubbard still has a wonderful sound to my ears! Now I know how he did it. Hanging out with a lot with different musicians in person developing ideas. Freddie is a style unto his own. God bless the child who’s got his own. His comment about playing in a big band and not being able to hear himself is something I can relate to! His wanting to be a soloist is something I can also relate to. His music carries a huge emotional impact on me every time I listen to it.
Greetings. Do you have details for this interview? What was the date of the interview? Where did the interview take place? Who was the interviewer? I am completing the first comprehensive biography of the life and career of saxophonist Junior Cook; this interview is a gold mine and confirmation of what I've heard anecdotally from several musicians...
Sorry that I do not have any more details about this interview. It was sent to me along with other jazz artists interviews many years ago and last year I found them in the archives I keep and re-posted them. I believe they originally where a podcast and the photos were added. Perhaps some other viewers will have more info for you. Thanks for watching and listening and good luck with your take on the great jazz master Junior Cook. Sam
