Yes, it's no coincidence that the people that are so 'concerned' about 'disinformation' are the same people that want the most control. All of the noise about this issue has come from the top, the General Public doesn't give a hoot about 'disinformation'. As far as they (the Elite) are concerned there's no distinction between 'disinformation' and 'disobedience'.

How do people know what is spread by people and what is spread or highlighted by AI algorithm.... if AI can spread misinformation and highlight the certain topics in the algorithm? AI may spread any bug or information that isn´t true or create a fake picture and people may believe anything. or may highlight the topic that is controversial, because people click on it more.
The reason why the folks behind GDI aren't responding is that they are already shutting it down and setting up a new one. That's how it works, if you get caught, rebrand.
That's why what we need is properly funded groups to catalogue track and expose every one of these groups, where their funding comes from and who runs them.
Assange's indictment is for actively engaging in espionage against the US. Nation states in the modern world obviously need to keep classified documents secret -- the lives of those in the intelligence network depend on them as does the US' strategic nuclear stance, to name just two examples.
Are you trying to warn Freddie? All I know is, if I were him or his family, I'd be worried at this point. Paranoia or not. Because the "fake news" and "disinformation" handles just don't fit Freddie do they. It's possible to predict that they may now have have to find some other way.

This is what we’ve needed. An eloquent well presented and factual argument against the censorship industrial complex. A move away from the sensationalism and pseudo spiritual nonsense of RU-vidrs like Brand et al. The main stream can’t ignore Unherd and Freddy as he’s playing them at their game. Unherd is amazing and well done Freddy, very much appreciated.

So true. If I were cynical, I'd suspect this is all research into how they might do it better a.k.a. "How can we sell our desired narratives more convincingly?"
It's also an ego thing, these Politicians and Elitists have an inherent superiority complex, and they just know, that they know, what is best for all the rest of us, so these 'Fact Checking' Organisations just feed on that. I thought it was really interesting/funny that almost every question that was asked was a variation on, "But Freddie, how is the government supposed to maintain control of The Narrative?" They simply could not get their heads around the notion that it's not for them to control our every thought. When and how the hell did that happen? They're so comfortable with it too. Smh.
Here's my suggestions: (1) Completely abandon any notion that "disinformation" can ever include true claims. The only thing which should ever be considered disinformation are claims which are demonstrably implausible. (2) If there is to be any role for government at all. It should be in countering those claims. Not censoring them. And certainly not censoring them secretly.
Agreed, also, the sad irony is, that, in a lot of cases, it is THEM (the Government) that are the biggest spreaders of disinformation. A lot of the 'disinformation' that they are so concerned with, were people questioning the vax and the benefits of lockdowns, THEY (the Government) deemed those people as purveyors of 'disinformation'. Yet, subsequensent research has shown that those doubts were in fact warranted. But, of course, there's no acknowledgment of that, it's all about those Shady Characters out in the internet darkness, that are maliciously spreading 'disinformation', it's laughable.
@@andybrice2711 yes, a lot of the time disinformation is based on logical fallacy that can be demonstrated to be invalid from first principles. There will be a few straight-up lies, but they are usually things that wouldn't amount to much, even if true, without the overall kinks in thinking.
Extremely well done Unherd. To get the problem aired on a global scale is some feat and something I did not think I would ever see given what went on throughout Covid and the aftermath.

Completely in awe of how eloquent and erudite Freddie was when replying to the Enquiry’s questions. It’s so reassuring to know that sane, informed adults are being asked hugely pertinent questions by other sane, enquiring adults! Faith in British intellect is slowing being restored.

Fantastic work by Unherd. Because GDI has been outed there are many making the appropriate noises. But let us not be fooled. The agenda remains unaltered. Also GDI is one organization. You can be sure there are thousands of organizations globally supporting this propaganda. There is no room for complacency.
The money given to GDI should clawed back as this organization obtained it under false pretences. If this isn’t done there isn’t anything to discourage other groups doing the same thing.

Two things increased my scepticism by orders of magnitude: 1 the reaction of the Establishment - all parts of it - to the plebs voting for Brexit, 2 the lies told to us in the Covid pandemic.
There are sooo many more examples. do you remember the war in Irak ? The infamous wmd's ? You killed millions because of that lie. How about JFK ? Brexit also (armagedon), the list just goes on..
I have to disagree here...we do need SOMEONE to fact check and control the flow of deliberate disinfo...the state does have the resources and should have at least 2 viewpoints, which is 1 more than most boardrooms. We can't just leave this to private companies with specific agendas and financial targets. Look at how many media are compromised by state interests and big money...AL Jazeera pretends to be a news network but is controlled by a dictatorship that still uses slave labour and oppresses women. Many other networks have Directors and advertisers who are are compromised by dirty money and specific agendas. This is an ongoing challenge and requires endless vigilance. There are no easy fixes...

I am so proud of what you have done regarding this issue. I have been subscribed for a while and I am always impressed with the topics you handle. I may not always agree with the discussions but appreciate the views. That is what we need, debate - you are entitled to have the ability to be funded by advertising. What has been revealed in your expose of GDI is so important - it has elevated my good opinion of your company. When a tech company decides who can be funded based on their own position on certain topics - that is disinformation. Propaganda. Behind you 100% - media serves the public, not police it.

Just want to say how thankful I am for unherd doing such an amazing job of highlighting this disgraceful organisation, but more importantly ripping the lid of this movement and allowing us the freedom to be able to speak factually again without fear of reprisals. The very fact that I have to say its ok to speak facts again or voice concerns/queries says it all really. This feels like the beginning of a return to the days when you may detest and disagree with another person's views/opinions/choices but they were allowed to have them anyway. I did notice that channel 4 news had a programme on this week though about the impact of the cass report on young adults, I didn't watch it but it made me think, the fightback has begun. Although, the fact that we are finally able to debate and talk about the other side of this issue is a huge step forward. Thank you unherd for the amazing work you do keep it up!
