Every time I come back to this recording, I gain more and more appreciation for Frederica Von Stade. A true artist! She is truly living this piece. The phrasing and the use of the language are impeccable. Brava Flicka
For me as a czech native speaker, this is one of the best love song in opera. Has very female love feelings. And performance of Von Stade is excellent.
@@caltamino you may go Google searching for Rusalka Song to the Moon lyrics Your light shines far in the heavens Over the world, wandering Gazing in human dwellings Over the world, wandering Gazing in human dwellings Silvery moon in the velvet sky Oh, once in awhile, stay with me Tell me where is my love? Oh, once in awhile, stay with me Tell me where is my love... where? Tell him, oh, tell him, silver moon That in my arms, I enfold him Tell him he dreams to tangle me Even if only for a moment Tell him in dreams to think of me Even if just for a moment Shine on in reverie Shine on him Tell him, oh, tell him I am here, waiting Shine on in reverie Shine on him Tell him, oh, tell him I am here, waiting If a human soul should dream of me May he still remember me on waking Dear moon, oh, shine for him Shine for him Shine, oh, shine for him
How glorious Mme. Von Stade is! A true and absolute diva--without the attitude. She is regal in beauty, talent and bearing. You may not know it, but this is the music you want to live your life to.
Wonderful, intensely moving to bring tears to the eyes. But the Orchestra led by Seiji Ozawa should be acknowledged for its sublime and tender performance of this Aria. The combination makes this the best performance I have heard, and I have heard many.
Flicka now an Alameda, CA resident and the most gracious and humble American artist of her caliber ..I had the fortune of being in the BARS orchestra accompanying her and some other soprano singers few years back....she had a glorious career....her voice is all about the music (not ego driver like some divas today...who might be more famous than her.....but...she is the gift from GOD...)..Thank you Flicka!!!
Frederica is retired now. She is famous for her voice in perfect French. My teen son got to stay aboard her yatch moored in the Saint Francis club section of the CA delta; a routine allowed to sailing youth, given free meals and a berth for a night. When home he mentioned this and the "lady" was practicing her songs. When he descrbed her, I flipped out and asked, "is here name by chance Frederica von Stade"? He answered yes. She treated the boys like a mother. My son, a musician himself remembers it still. I collect her music and adore her still, the quality of her voice and great respect of her audience. Got once to hear her live. She is a great lady, not full of herself as some are.
Oh My God! I've never heard this aria sung so beautifully. such a pure sound- not a trace of heaviness; she's got a perfect vibrato and her voice is so expressive. as an aside, she's a gorgeous woman. I feel privileged to have heard her in several roles at the MET
I heard her live twice. Yes, an absolutely gorgeous voice and I realized recordings simply cannot catch all the colors and subtleties in her voice. Such perfection.
@@Ailsa72 Indeed, she has beautiful voice and does justice to this aria, but my favourite performance is this one by Patricia Janeckova. Here is the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8WrXtnCX_9g.html
I'm Czech and I played this song by Renée Fleming, unfortunately I didn't listen and turn it off in the middle. Then I found a version from FREDERICA VON STADE. I have to say, I'm probably getting old, but in the end I cried like a child! Not to mention that no one saw me. I admire the real experience and beautiful Czech.
I love her voice. Hansel and Gretel is gorgeous music and she sings Hansel. you'd like it. But my favorite rendition of Rusalka's aria is done by Czech singer--. a most exquisite voice! -- Listen "Milada Šubrtová - Rusalka" on RU-vid ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eRLUY2HEgIc.html
Flicka is absolutely stunning and brings her unique magic and sense of atmosphere to this exquisite nocturnal aria. I love the silent, hold your breath pause at the end. Radiance incarnate. Flicka owns this aria and the orchestra sounds beautiful. The harp arpeggios at the beginning and the solo English Horn near the end are so beautiful. This is life-affirming artistry.
music is a connecting element, you think differently while listening (you switch your thinking), if only people would focus on what they have in common and they didn't look for differences.
It doesn't get any better than this. How is it possible that 89 people gave this a thumbs down? The aria is gorgeous and it could not have been sung any better.
Frederica.........3 months ago my sweet wife passed away , and now as I listen to you sing so beautifully , I join with you and insert the pronoun HER where it appears. Thank you, thank you from the depths of my heart for bringing my sweetie and I together again under the light of our beautiful Rusalka.
I have goose bumps. I've always admired her but never heard her do this. The fact that she's a mezzo makes it so much richer, just heavenly, and flawless.
Since this woman broke onto the Opera scene in the 1970s, I've been in total love with her voice. Glorious tone, musicality to the stars.. just wonderful.
Hello sir I hope not to bother you? I hope to be able to meet you if it does not cause you any problem because I am a woman who is looking for a man with whom I could live the great love. Do you look for the same thing in a woman? So if you don't mind make me a request on hangouts I would be really happy then here is my Email ruthlorey29@gmail.com
One of the most Beautiful events in the Opera repertoire thanks to the Perfection or Frederica and the great conductor Segi Osawa and the brilliant harpist
I'm a REAL FLICKA FAN!!! (I named one of my cats Flicka!) I met her (and Samuel Ramey) after a concert at Brevard, NC in 2000. In 2003, she came to Hampton, VA (where I live) for a concert. At the meet and greet party after the show, I gave her a photo of her and Placido Domingo I'd taken during curtain call of The Merry Widow at the MET. She is a MOST GRACIOUS, GENTEEL, BEAUTIFUL, TALENTED LADY!!!
Bravi to both her and Domingo! His Rodolfo (La Boheme) was the first I ever saw (at the New York City Opera, I think, and we both were young - though I the younger of the two), and it was unforgettable. He was magnificent as a singer and in his other roles, and though I heartily regret his apparent sexual misbehavior (was it proven that he did those things), he remains a star, and therefore memorable for me.
What a beautiful singer . What a beautiful voice. It is a great life we live when a performer like her does this magnificent rendition of this famous song.
In 2019 I saw Flicka give a master class at the Cardiff singer of the world. She was unconventional, warm and humorous, and the student improved greatly. Her early recording (LP) including a stunning "O quand je dors", made when she was heavily pregnant (so the story goes), is a landmark of vocal artistry.
Sheer beauty and magnificence of Frederick Von Stade’s Glorious voice here has left me was practically speechless. And crying. How can anything be this beautiful?
so many have been singing this aria. to me nobody has come so close to the sentiment as Frederica von Stade. i only regret that there are so few recordings available of this remarcable artist
It is entirely true, this aria of Antonin Dvorak is extremely difficult to interpret because it must be expressing: sentimentality, poetry and romanticism. Also, let's pay tribute to Karita Mattila who interpreted it, in her own time, at a stage near to perfection; this is my opinion. Sincere salutations. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XPXXuHPgkyo.html.
Thank you for your beautiful comment. I think there are no competitions or comparisons between the great singers because they are all very appreciated in their splendid interpretations. However, I invite you to listen to the Finnish, Karita Matilla (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XPXXuHPgkyo.html), I find her perfect, in this sublime interpretation, just as Frederica von Stade. I also invite you to listen to the new generation of very promising singers, such as the Slovak Patricia Janeckova.
Vzpomínky na mou matku. Když mi byla malá, zpívala mi to. Kéž bych ji znovu slyšel. Jsou ještě chvíle, kdy to slyším v mém srdci. Spal jsem na rameni své matky.
Her soprano is like drops of effulgent moon dripping down . This masterpiece is one of the supreme masterpiece of Dvorak's aesthetics . From chaotic and invincible Tokyo of the Land of Rising Sun .
I once met this marvelous and lovely diva after a performance in Portland, OR. She was dignified and SO beautiful still. God Bless her and all she is, Such Beauty. Love you, Flicka.
