Free 1997 Honda Foreman 400 4x4 restoration
Here's the end result of the 1997 Honda Foreman 400 4x4 that I pulled out of the weeds. It still needs some small things such as only the rear brake is engaging, but most of the parts that the bike was missing when I found it have been wither upgraded or replaced. I'll make full part list video if anyone is interested. This is mostly just a walk around of the 400, but helmet GoPro footage from my future rides will be posted to this channel.
There were a lot of things that it needed that I ended up not having to pay for since friends happened to have the parts I needed and offered them, like replacing all 4 cv boots as well as a brand new Honda speedometer. So these things didn’t cost anything but I’ll most likely add them to the final cost of the restoration when I do the parts list later.

How do you think a project like this would go for someone with bo experience working on quads? Thinking about trying a restoration to save some money on a new machine

For a restoration project ebay will be your best friends for filters, ignition parts, carbs, plastics, etc. So in the end won't end up costing that much ofc. All the things that are replaceable on these bikes like the carbs and other components are easily replaceable with very little know how. I had a lot of fun and I would recommend going for it since this was my first time messing with an old bike, but dont be afraid to ask for tips from people who've messed with them before. CV axle replacement and brake job on this were the absolute hardest things but I got a hand from someone who had done it before. Overall if it just needs carb, plastics, maybe a little wiring and such honestly not difficult and can be done with little experience. If you end up getting water in these however a rebuild isnt necessarily something that you can just up and do with no experience. Anyways good luck with finding a bike and long as it doesn't need to much it was a ton of fun for me personally.

Why did you opt to go with an aftermarket Chinese carb from amazon rather than just cleaning the original or rebuilding it with one of the many rebuild kits online? Just curious. I have the exact same wheeler mine is a 98 foreman 400 that I restored as well, full top end rebuild, new springs, wheels, tires, LED lighting, probably a few other things as well. It has been sitting for a while and I am planning on taking off the carb (original) and giving it a good cleaning.

So I’ve rebuilt carbs before, always better to keep the original of course. However this one was severely corroded and covered in buildup since the water box had some water in it. Miraculously the top end didn’t get a drop of water in it but the entire carburetor was flaking and I wasn’t about to trust a rebuilt kit to fix it. Everything is fixable with enough money but I’ve had that carb since last summer and haven’t ran into any issues yet.
