Great beginner lesson. On a guitar, the banjo tuning would be an open G tuning where the High E string is tuned to D. If you play a guitar in normal tuning, The moveable F chord would be a F suspended 2 on a guitar because you are adding a G note on the E string, which is the second note in the F scale.

Yes, the middle 3 strings of the banjo and guitar are tuned the same so there's a lot of similarities. You can usually make a small change or two to make any guitar chord work for banjo and vice versa. - Mike

I believe this would be an Fadd9 as the notes are not directly adjacent to one another.

+honkster Let me see if I can come up with something...Are you talking about exercises to help stretch your fingers or exercises to help your fingers move faster? - Mike
@mhankehanke

+Mike Hedding I definitely need more speed but I also have trouble moving full chords especially the pinky. It seems to have a mind of its own.

Hello Mike, keep the lessons coming, I have a question, I have a GoldTone BG-250F, love playing it, I was wondering, where you have taught many students, my hands are big I mean I can go to Lowes and the only gloves I can wear comfortably are the cloth ones. My question is, would a banjo with a thicker/wider neck be better for me, or should I stay with what I started with? Sighed: XXLarge, lol

@MikeHeddingMusic 3 года назад
I'd keep playing with the banjo you have until you're sure that a wider neck would be helpful. My guess is you're just going through the normal learning process and you'll figure out how to make the banjo you have work just fine. But after you've played for a while you may want to upgrade and then you'll know more about exactly what you're looking for in a banjo. - Mike
