Not sure if you got it to work, but you in the geometry node make sure simulation noodles are connected. Group Input to Simulation Input, Simulation Input to Store Named Attribute, then at the other end, Store Named Attribute to Simulation Output, Simulation Output to Group Output. Also, I the Display modifier in Viewport was disabled for both plastic and candle monkey heads. You have to enable that. It worked for me I'm using Blender 3.6 alpha with commit 4129e1553d73.
