Probably not everyone can. Most can't, rather have no idea what they're doing, they're lucky to tie their shoes, if their "smart phone" can't fix the problem they're SOL.

I just picked up a 2003 craftsman 9hp 29" from my next door neighbor that had been sitting out behind his house for probably 10 years. I noticed that he was getting rid of some stuff so I offered and he sold. Of course it needed some love, but it is in surprising shape, it even started, and I walked it home under power. As a long time subscriber, I thought "Wonder if Mustie has a vid on this thing." Thanks for having one. 😀

I've got the same snow-blower except it has an additional 2 " swath . It's a Craftsman when Sears still cared about their customers. The old 8 HP Snow -King Tecumseh engine runs strong as long as you watch your fuel. Snow blowers love 92 octane fuel. In wet snow, that engine is working it's a$$ off. Nice find Mustie1.

That's the exact Make/Model color and horsepower of my snowblower. I bought it new in 1998 or 1999. I add a stabilizer to the gas that I use for the snowblower. I keep blower it in the garage when not in use, change the oil every one or two years. Check the spark plug every year, replace it every 2-3 years. Clean it up in the spring. Recent snowstorm about 10 inches of wet snow. 1st time it struggled. I think I have to tighten the auger belt or if not possible replace it this year. Otherwise starts up every time with minimum maintenance. It's a workhorse during Michigan's snow season. 20 years old engine still runs great. My riding lawnmower is close to 40 years old(Simplicity)

@Mr_Tecumseh 7 лет назад
If you did not pick up Im talking to both you knuckle heads and 14hp, thats wrong. 13hp 420cc is the max power engine they put on snowblowers so your full of crap too.
@Mr_Tecumseh
@Mr_Tecumseh 7 лет назад
26 that's all, wow. I have two 46 year old Ariens one with a replacement and one with its original engine and I can tell ya, their is no reason in hell for a 14hp engine on any Ariens Snowblower, even their largest 36 wide machine's. At 14hp their is no reason for that much power and when those engines are off those engines are huge and make the machine hard to move and its a battle even with it on, why would you want to fight your machine. So what Brand, hp, and cc engine do you have on your machine than smart guy?
@Mr_Tecumseh
@Mr_Tecumseh 7 лет назад
What HORSEPOWER/CC RATING IS THE ENGINE??
@Mr_Tecumseh
@Mr_Tecumseh 7 лет назад
I don't think you know what HP/CC rating your engine is. I don't care what kind of Briggs it is just the HP/CC rating on the engine. Is the engine even winterized meaning has shields over the linkages and a heater cover in place of an air filter? Either way on a 32 wide machine, you don't need 14hp, if it were 14hp, you havent given me its cc rating to find out what it trully is because 420cc is 13hp. But either way a 10hp engine will do just fine on a 32 wide machine, 11, 12hp great. Ariens 36 wide machines come with a standard 13hp, 420cc engine and it is more than enough power. I have a 1971 Ariens Sno-Thro it is also a 32 wide unit and 10hp, is more than enough power on that beast and I broke even on that machine. My 1971 24 wide Ariens, that one I got free. My 2002 Snapper 8246 that I bought used in 2006 at age 4 barely used still practically brand new with its original engine, I paid $450 for. Those are deals. What you got is not a "deal" and who pays 589? Private sellers sell machines at even numbers 500, 525, 550. What did you go to s shop, a shop would charge an oddball number like that, just like the dealers and the big box stores selling stuff at $999.99. If you got it at a repair shop than he also made money off you too, so no really not a deal. Yes I've thought about it from every angle.

I picked up a 4000W walmart for free yesterday and got it running. Instead of wasting time cleaning things before I got it going I approached it like you do and got spark (needed oil), dumped some gas in the carb and got it fired. This was after draining water out of the cylinder and exhaust. After it fired I messed with it to make it run properly.

Handy tip for snowblower chains.... Try mixing up a 50/50 mix of chainsaw bar oil and WD40. Paint it on and exercise the chain just like you did. Then wipe off any excess. The bar oil is tremendously tacky and won't dry out. Seals out moisture really well too.

great job, I have watched a lot of you videos and you are a good mechanic. I am a old vet and I still wake up at 3 and 4 AM, a great way to kill some time. At one time I had a full shop with a lift and all the toys, Kubota tractor, bucket truck, wood splitter and a fleet of small engines ...5 or 6 chain saws all the lawn stuff. But I enjoyed repair and maintaining my fleet. Sold it all and moved to Charleston SC. I remember the great times but living in Charleston having a HOA to take care of all of that type of FUN is not bad. I have a local hangout Charleston boat shop I help the guys do the problem solving. :)

Your going to be in trouble if you ever lose your wire brush.. LOL Trust me, I'm joking, I'm a old retired mechanic that has used fine wires to clean out more jets that only another mechanic would believe. Keep up the videos, I'm pretty sick with cancer these days and can't do very much, but your videos mentally puts me back in my workshop. There isn't much that you do that I haven't done myself at one time or another. I still have a nice 24'X24' workshop with all the trimmings that looks very similar to yours with the welders, air tools, motorcycle lift etc., but I don't get out there much anymore. Keep up the videos, I really enjoy them. Watching certainly isn't doing, but it's better than doing nothing. I miss it like you wouldn't believe.

if it was me with cancer i would be doing this, no meat, coffee or soda as this makes your system acidic and we are alkaline also would be drinking a couple oz of fresh carrot juice 2 or 3 times a day and taking 1000mg vit "C" every 4 hours as our systems if don't use up the vit "C" it spits it out . I would be doing this for 2 weeks also I would be drinking lots of water with lemon juice as this will make your system alkaline and cancer can't live in a alkaline system hope this will be of help I had colon cancer going up in the limp nodes and no help from any doctor as the VA hosp surgeon asked me when was the last time I had a colonoscopy I said 5 years ago and he said the ama says you only need one every 10 years this was right after I did a stool test 2 weeks in a row and samples were full of blood. A dr rife machine did the trick for me and after 14 years doing OK. a rife machine consists of: atelierrobin freq generator, cb radio modified, linear, antenna tuner, 1 in x 20 inch glass tube with 2 gases and a bubble in the middle, 12 volt power supply and you sit about 5 feet in front of it it took 7 days to get rid of the cancer. you can get a manual from Dr Bare in Albuquerque New Mexico as he worked with Dr Rife. There is a German who invented a system that you have little viles don't know what is in them but by using them he can tell you exactly what is wrong with you no guessing. ever stop to think that you are a guinea pig when you go to see a doctor?? he/she gives you a prescription and says if that don't work come back I'll give you something else

It's amazing what a selection of wire wheels can do, use them myself all the time. And people, do yourself a favor, get a 'high-cling' type of chain lube..several brands out there, usually foaming, and hit the chains when they are new, just lightly, and clean it after, and it will help prevent that bound chain syndrome often found on them. Also on that slide shaft, I use a high paraffin grease, lightly rubbed in as he did, to stop that corrosion. A few minutes new..or new-to-you will keep your stuff operating well. Good save, and that's a desirable size, and I actually prefer the manual chute moving ones.

Never ceases to amaze me how you find and revive those poor machines back to a new life! Excellent work!! (Cushman?)

Most of the problems lie in the lack of storing the machine properly, and top that off with today's lazy people and the lack of any mechanical skills at all...if their "smart phone" doesn't have an app for it forget about them being able to do anything, if they can't click a button to fix it, its garbage.

That looks like a good machine. I wish I had one like it...someone in my area wanted $400 for one although it appeared well cared for it was out of my price range.

I got a new snowblower at the curbside the same exact way just driving by and it was sitting at the curbside for garbage last year it was maybe a year or 2 old it looked great. After I got it home to my home shop literally the only thing wrong was the fuel line had come off lol I don't have a clue why someone wouldn't have seen such an easy fix 🤷‍♂️. Oh well turned out great for me. Anyways thanks for the video it's great to see others not letting good things like this go to the landfill. 👍✌

I have had the same problems with some engine sitting have high idle but no low idol usually a dead indicator of a clogged jet I put liquid seafoam in the gas tank with just a little bit of gas and let it run through a full cycle usually does the trick your videos are very good and informative

We really live in a disposable economy.... People just don't give a hoot about their equipment. When it quits, just put it out for the trash. Pitiful, this snowblower has a lot of life left in it! Oh well, one goofs loss is your gain. Great video as usual.

Yeah, people nowadays don't even know how combustion works, so they just throw everything out and buy again. I miss the 50's when people were conservative with stuff.

Trouble is if they don't have time to fix it themselves the repair shops charge so much for labor people just throw stuff away and buy new. They figure by the time they pay a shop to do the repairs they may as well put that money towards a new product than risking another failure of the old one soon after the repair. My Craftsman Lawn tractor is only 7 years old, pretty sure it blew a connecting rod last week and that is not worth repairing IMO, since the transaxle is sounding like someone is playing marbles in it. I'll definitely pass on fixing that POS.

I guarantee you when I throw something away there is NO life left in it!

Problem is, things today are not generally fixable by consumers, and the cost of a new item is so low, that repairs doesnt make sense in many cases
@1575murray
@1575murray 5 лет назад
@@lauej What a lot of people don't realize is that the manufacturers have cheapened their products and made them much more difficult and expensive to repair so they can sell you a new one just a few short years later. It is called planned obsolescence.

Great job. I find that if I open the idle jet one miniature drill size the idle often becomes normal. Factory settings were very lean. Thanks for the video's.

Always like Christmas when I find a dead on the side of the road find like that. I have done that more times than I can count. I have a trailer now to hold my finds. I fix those old Crapsmans all the time. I sold one of those last fall. I need me an air power table like yours. The usual check things out,then determine it just needs a carb kit and oil change,then gets the for sale sign.

Good job. Next door neighbor just gave me the exact same one sitting in weather for 3 or 4 years. Luckily it was drained of gas. A few hours yesterday with some bust rust and tools and it's good to go.

Looks like a keeper. My buddy dropped off the same snowblower for me to repair. It wouldn't run, just a carb clean and quality grease and it works great. Wish I had a lift like that! Would be great for tractors.
